Wizard Toward

My clinical placement should start today. Assuming that I havn't been defered to do it during my holidays scheduled posts FTW. Stupid self-edit University. Self-edit, self-edit waste of money. Worst self-edit, self-edit institution in the world. Mother Self-edit idiots. Below are some Work in Progress pictures of a Wizard tower from the Warhammer World team. I particuarly like the weather vein. As always original commentary is below and if I have any thoughts they will be in purple italics...

The Warhammer World scenery team spend all day (and sometimes a lot of the night) making great pieces of custom scenery for the Warhammer World gaming hall (the stuff you'll play with at the Throne of Skulls and the like), and UK Games Day. The lucky bastards. They also make all of the awesome display boards and themed gameboards for the hall - it's their job to make sure that when you come to play games at Warhammer World, you get to play on the coolest battlefields and get to wage war over inspirational terrain. The team even found time to make the 'Eavy Metal Spray Gun featured in our April Fool's Day post.

It has been a while since I caught up with Ray and his team, so this morning I popped by their workshop to see what they've been up to. I found two Warhammer buildings that Gareth Williams has been working on. Here's a look at his work-in-progress wizard's tower and his completed mega-manor. The mega-manor will be in a future post.

Gareth made the flooring for the balcony section from the top of the Fortress Tower section, which he used as the basis of the building...  it's essentially a Watchtower on top of a Fortress Tower, with an Arcane Ruin and a Chapel added to the sides.

Gareth thought that the defining feature of any wizard's tower should be a tall tower with some sort of device on top of it. As well as being suitably tall, the pillars from the Arcane Ruin set look, well, arcane, and so worked well. Click on the image link to see the whole tower - this time from the other side.

Gareth made the base of the weather vein out of 25mm round bases and the arms from bits of plastic frame. The orb began life as ping-pong ball, which Gareth textured with filler. All of the other pieces are either from the Empire Wizard kit or one of the building sets.
