Weekly Finds #1

Going to collect all of the interests pieces of information that I find on the interwebz each week... something similar in nature to this and this. Except there wont be a set limit or clever commentary. It will be more like this actually. I will then post them every Friday Ozlandus time for future references and to showcase the amazing talent of some members of our online community. So let us begin...

Greenstuff Tabard Tutorial by Ron from FTW - Relatively simple tutorial that shows how to create a tabard or even cloaks for your miniatures.

Where Once Was Paradise by Raffa from Massive Voodoo - A Death Korps of Krieg piece with a stunning display base. The guys over at Massive Voodoo produce some of the best stuff on the interwebz they have the demons and spoon to prove it. Except to see their work here every week.

WiP Princess Fanny by Grey Death from The Painting Corps - Was shown this miniature by Grey Death in a previous post of his... and it looks like he will turn it into something beautiful. Also going to do a plug for Runic Miniatures which have some really nice sculpts. In the coming year I plan on getting some of them for myself.

JRN's Golden Demon Advice by Jakob R. Neilson from Runic Miniatures - I have stumbled across Jakob's work in the past and more recently on Tears of Envy plus he is the guy with the plug above. I have no plans to enter the Australian Golden Demons, at least not with my current painting skills. But the advice given, which can be found under Essays, is helpful whether your painting a centrepiece for your army or plan on entering a competition.

Doctor Doom by Knightmodel from Spanish Team Forum - This was in Volomir's Don't Miss Out for October. Glad that I didn't miss out because it is stunning. I particularly like the way he created the clasp for the cloak... going to keep it in mind for any future projects. Just need to find thin enough wire.

Scale Shells by Mister Justin from Secret Weapon Miniatures - These look interesting. More likely to use them on a base, but when I order some stuff from him they will be included.

40K Editorial: The Merits of Kill Points by Brent from Bells of Lost Souls - We like love Brent. He has the sort of personality and voice that even a serial axe murderer could love except for that crazy guy called Stalin.

How to Make Sandbags by Mike from Santa Cruz Warhammer - This is an awesome tutorial on how to create realistic sandbags... the sort of thing necessary to add some character to your table top. Tournament Organisers should take note, because we all know how much they love filling our tables with more than 25% terrain. Right?

Advance Blocking Tactics by Kirby from The Pinktastic Blog - The only useful tutorial on tactics that could be found on the interwebz from this week. And no surprise it has been written by Kirby. There are pictures that illustrate the idea. It includes different ways the idea can be implemented. And it is pinktastic. Hopefully Kirby goes into further details *cough* pictures *cough* on how to make the triangle formation work with movement...

So that is it for a week. Next week I will try and get a more diverse spread of hobby content by including tutorials on tactics or some advice on list building... the online community for our little hobby is better represented by the painting, sculpting and converting side. There is very little on how to improve your skills as a tactician. Instead we get crap like this and this from the 'competitive elite'. But not as bad as this...

  1. Nice summary. Almost all stuff I would not see normally (as I would never go looking for it). Thanks.
