Beastmen Herdstone

Blood and heretic markings are two key ingredients for worshopping chaos. And this herdstone from a previous What's New Today post has both of them. Making something like it would be an awesome centre piece for a table. As always original commentary is below with my own thoughts in purple italics...

Inspired by all the Bestman activity going on around them the guys in the Games Workshop Lyon Hobby Centre decided to build a herdstone. Take a look at their creation below:

The impressive herdstone uses the base of the Citadel Woods kit with a toy plastic skull attached to it. They then used a mixture of PVA Glue, sand and water to texture and protect it. Finally they added one of the trees from the kit and a number of shields form the Gor, Ungor and Minotaur plastic kits. If your after some fake skulls they can easily be gotten online for reasonable prices.

To paint the herdstone they first undercoated it with Chaos Black spray and then painted the whole thing Scorched brown. The rock was drybrushed with Codex Grey and then Fortress Grey before giving it a wash of Devlan Mud and Badad Black. The earth is drybrushed with Vomit Brown and then Bleached Bone. All the shields were painted as per the paint schemes in February's White Dwarf. Finally the pools of blood were made using Blood Red paint covered with Water Effect.
