Weekly Finds #56

Instant Mold Review and Tutorial by Hellspawn from Chest of Colours - While procrastinating on Bolter and Chainsword I came across this post that linked to the review and tutorial by Hellspawn. I've read about Instant Mold in the past. But never given any thought to using it. But after seeing some of the work by Ron and Lamenter using Blu Stuff as well as some tutorials on resin casting, this article has got me curious.

The Effects of Hairspray on Weathering Powders by Ron from FTW - Following on from Ron's previous post on protecting weathering powders using varnish. I've seen people use hair spray to create weathering both Massive Voodoo and Secret Weapon Miniatures have tutorials. But this is a first for me. Using hairspray to keep weathering powders from rubbing off. The picture below illustrates that combined with varnish there is some loss of the powder... but then it beats the eventual wear and tear from handling miniatures during game play. Dave from N++ also has an article on protecting weathering that may be of interest... may want to try out the liquitex matte varnish.

Rivets Galore by Dave Taylor from Dave Taylor's Miniatures - This is an old post by Dave. Came across it while looking at some of his older posts just cause I was bored and he has some great conversions. With the carrot slicing method another way to prevent the pieces flying off is something that Sandwyrm mentioned in his tutorial on converting Chimera.

Airbrush Maintenance by Generul Pole Axe from Massive Voodoo Myrmidon Studio - If I get the airbrush for Christmas then this will be a useful reference... especially since I like to clean things with my OCD. Dave from N++ also has an article on cleaning airbrushes with information on airbrush specific cleaning products.

Minions of the Shadow Forge by Vlâdvar the Destroyer from The Bolter & Chainsword - This is an awesome construction. I've actually thought in the past that the new Dark Eldar Talos had the potential for some awesome Chaos Daemonic construction. Seeing this by Vlâdvar goes to show this kit has so much potential.

Agents of the Imperium by Doghouse from The Bolter & Chainsword - Some of these conversions are rather simple head and arm swaps such as the one below. But they manage to offer each miniature some unique character. Edran Tanner really fits the description that Dog House provides... especially with the walking stick. The Lady Merissa conversion is another miniature that fits the description... the shawl is a great addition. Countess Mariana from the Mordheim range could also fit into an INQ28 warband with some changes.
