Weekly Finds #66

Going Made On Icicles by Roman from Massive Voodoo - A chance to see Roman using his tutorial on making icicles. The below picture as well as the WiP pictures in the link give an idea on how using this tedious technique can produce some great results. Especially if you used some of Secret Weapon Miniatures' Crushed Glass on the base to enhance the winter feel.

Tervigon: Arachnarock Conversion Reborn by Old School Terminator from Dark Future Games - Single best Tervigon conversion I've seen to date. The big spider arse gives the impression that some 'Gaunts could actually be produced by this thing. While at the same time it looks as dangerous as it is in games terms. Plus I like the new paint job Old School Terminator gave it.

Do Not Miss: January 2012 by Volomir from Volomir's Blog - Volomir highlights some great sculpts such as the one below from Reaver Lords as well as this one here. Despite being my favourite of the sculpts it isn't suitable for work or children...

Rich Skin Tones and their Effect by Ron from FTW - A look at the theory behind painting rich skin colours such as the below Deathwing Terminator. I particuarly like the comparison Ron makes to the guy inside the armour and the armour itself... got me thinking on ways to paint the flesh on certain miniatures in my collection. That all depends when I get around to actually applying paint to my miniatures....

Puppet War's "Big Momma" Tank Gun by Alec Peter from Apocalypse 40K - This is a great addition to Puppet War's collection of after-market kits. World work well as a substitute to a Vindicator or even as a completely different tank in games of Apocalypse. And at less than 20 AUD excluding postage this could easily work out cheaper than Games Workshop's Vindicator kit. Can see a review and Datasheet on Sir Tainly's blog, Fort Wargame.

Games Play Tip: Absorbing Assaults by Neil Gilstrap from The 11th Company - A look at some theory behind handling assaults. For Black Templars there is the Rhino Wall as well as using our Land Speeders to slow down a Mechanised Assault Army. Another tactic I have heard but never used is running a Thunderbubble. It is also interesting to note that Stelek is not the only competitive gamer/hobbyists on the interwebz that views assault builds as weak.
