Weekly Finds #61

How to Paint White by Ron from FTW - We all know white can be a pain to get right. It's the reason why the Black Templars I have painted over the years don't have white shoulder pads. Can take dozens of layers to get a smooth coat... and sometimes that doesn't even work out. Ron shows just one way of achieving a smooth coat without using an airbrush or spending hours to putting layer after layer.

Dark Eldar Grotesque Conversions by Lucky No.5 from Eye of Error - This is a great conversion that puts the Games Workshop model to shame. A miniature that reminds me of the Chaos Obliterator in the ugliness of pose. Head over to Eye of Error to take a look at some other amazing Dark Eldar conversions such as this Archon Court. And if your blog is in need of some artwork take a look at what Lucky No.5 has to offer.

Tutorial for Realistic Spiderwebs by Raffa from Massive Voodoo - This is just brilliant. Sadly you will need an airbrush to achieve this effect. And due to the fragile nature of spider webs this won't be suitable for gaming pieces... so unlikely to appear on terrain. However, if your interested in creating some spider webs for display pieces head on over to Raffa's store, Forged Monkey.

Do Not Miss: December 2011 by Volomir from Volomir's Blog - A collection of some great miniatures from December. Although I have no intention on picking up any of the miniatures from Raging Heroes, they do have some amazing sculpts. So if your interested in painting some stunning display pieces head on over to their website. Some of their miniatures would work great as alternatives to GW's such as the Manticore or Tree Warriors.

Making Swords by Carmen from Carmen's Fun Painty Time - This is an old tutorial by Carmen that I cam across some time ago while looking around his blog. I encouraged anybody with some time to spare to do the same. But the reason I've included it in this weeks article is because I'm getting into Malifaux. Some of their sculpts are plain ugly while others are great. Two of the three Ronin sculpts are stunning. However, one of these has a very weak sword that bends just by looking at it funny. One solution is to replace the soft lead with a brass rod using Carmen's tutorial. I'll be going a different route but this tutorial was something that came to mind when I saw the sword.
