She Who Thirsts by Jeff Vader from The Convertorum - Can easily imaging that monster as being a Hellbrute conversion in someone's Slaanesh army. Can see more over on Iron Sleet, including some descriptions.
- a looney journey for the advanced gamer from twelve years of age to one hundred and fifty and for that more competitive sort of gamer who likes challenges

Harlequin Diamonds Tutorial by Dezart Fox from The Vanus Temple - This is just brilliant. Obviously doesn't offer the same sort of options that a free hand pattern has. But given how tedious free hand is, this is just brilliant. Plus get to play with the sort of scissors they gave out in primary school.

Do Not Miss by Volomir from Volomir's Blog - There is just so many awesome articles and miniatures on display in this month's installment. The Wraithknight pictured below is just beautifully creepy. There is also a tutorial on painting skin with an airbrush which includes an interesting set of paints from Vallejo. Plus other things like using feathers on miniatures as well as some completed greens.

Less than a week to go till Christmas is upon us. What sort of things do my Imaginary Friends have planned for the festive season?
Necron Cryptek Conversion by Garfy from Tale of Painter - A creative conversion that shows how easy it is to throw in some flavour to Necron Characters. I particularly like the way he went about showing us what parts he used to bring his creation to life. I suspect this miniature will find its way to the White Dwarf teams inbox along with his Goblin Wolf Rider Standard Bearer. Both represent true kit-bashes as opposed to the head swaps we regularly see in White Dwarf.
Horus Heresy Death Guard Killzone Team by Dave Taylor from Dave Taylor Miniatures - The Horus Heresy bug has clearly spread across the interwebz from forums to blogs. It is interesting that several years ago collecting a Forge World army was a daunting task to anybody that didn't want to be divorced. They were viewed as expensive luxuries that only the rich or socially withdrawn could afford. Now, that seems to be changing... unlike Death Korps of Krieg, they aren't strictly an all resin army. Dave Taylor's growing collection illustrates this nicely with a blend of resin and plastic components spread throughout the army.
How to Paint the Hobbit Miniatures Series by Garfy from Tale of Painters - I've included several of Garfy's The Hobbit tutorials in the past. He has collected links to all of them in one place. A must read for anybody that picked up the Goblin Town box set.
Craftworld Mymeara Painting Guide byGMort Nigel Bartlett from GMorts Chaotica - A guest's authors painting guide on one way to painting Craftworld Mymeara. The painting of the canopy window particuarly interested me. It seems like a great way for any painter that uses objective source lightening to add to the illusion.

Mismatch of Bolts and Bolters by coldfyre from Bolter & Chainsword - An indepth look into the inconsistencies between the Warhammer 40K background and the miniatures that we see on the table top. In this case the size of our much beloved bolter and the rounds of ammunition used within them. In the comment sections there was also a link to Phil Sibbering's website. I've not read through all of it. But it offers an interesting look into the Warhammer 40K Universe. For example, his illustration below helps challenge the misconception that Space Marine's shoulders aren't wide enough to fit inside Power Armour.

The Blind Necromancer by Karun from Blog de Kouzes - With the release of the latest Eldar Codex there has been some great looking miniatures floating around the interwebz. This has to be my favourite. The conversion is just stunning.
Legion Rising from Subtle Discord from the Bolter & Chainsword - It's been a while since I last featured Subtle Discord's dark mechanicus project. Since then his thread has sunk into the ethers of the forum-sphere. Only to rise up again to spit out this beast. Shouldn't be long now before we get to see him sell some of his own kits.
Staging the Set by Kari Spiky Rat Pack - Have you had enough of Kari's terrain. No? Good. Because, I am a huge fan of his stuff. Even though there probably isn't all that much special about it. Something about it just screams grim dark... especially. when compared to how the Games Workshop guys go about painting and displaying their own terrain,
Horus Heresy Blood Angels by Martok from the Bolter & Chainsword - The Contemptor-Mortis is probably one of those Forge World miniatures I wish I could have several of. They look deadly and have the rules to pack a real punch on the table top. Martok's own Contemptor-Mortis does nothing but add to this. Also like the clever use of basing to change the usual gorilla legs of Tactical Marines.
Aiming Space Marines Tutorial by Big Jim from Galaxy in Flames - I'm currently in the process of trying to pull off this conversion. It is a royal pain trying to align all of the elements together. Hopefully my end results turns out half way decent. Big Jim also shares his receipt for painting yellow using Vallejo Colours.

Step by Step Tutorial of Pedro Kantor by Raffa from Massive Voodoo - This is described as a fast tutorial... yet for the vast majority of hobbyists this would be considered professional and garner lots of jealousy. I can imagine that on a stock standard Space Marine that lacks all of the extra details, this would indeed work out to be a fast tutorial. Especially, when you consider how few colours are actually used.
Number Crunching the Troops by Anonymous Foodie from The Back 40K - A different approach to comparing the value of units on the table top. To a greater extent this article helps poke holes into the argument that mathhammer alone should win games. A must read before considering the opinions of interwebz personalities.
Eldar Wraithknight by Third Eye Nuke from Tale of Painters - Third Eye Nuke's approach to painting his wraith constructs draws some nice parallels with wraithbone, and more specifically Forge World's Wraithseer. Yet the weathering breaks it away from the traditional clean look. The colour scheme used has similarities with TEN's Tau miniatures.
Tau Codex Review: Markerlights by Abuse Puppy from the Pinktastic Blog - Can see the overview for the series here.

White Dwarf - June 2013 Eldar
Garfy's Review Comparison of this month's White Dwarf follows on from the success of February's Review Comparison. For me this month's issue doesn't come that far ahead of the 2006 issue. And it is only mildly better because the adverts aren't thrust into your face. I do miss the old issues with the exceptional collections featured in White Dwarf. For example, there is a stunning Bretonnian army by Golden Daemon winner Jamie Downward. That is the sort of army I want to see... it is nice that the current White Dwarf team want to show off their collections. But they don't inspire me to try a different paint style, collect a new army or try out some conversion. The 2006 issue even had an article on converting different units including a Witch Hunter Retinue by Mike Butcher and an envy inducing Adeptus Arbite squad by Marc Raley. The article includes a tutorial on converting the count-as shotguns.

Scribe Machiarus by JRN from miniaTEXTures - This is such a simple approach for a miniature full of character. The rough, yet precise approach used by JRN works brilliantly... can see myself regularly using the phrase. The weathering on the robes reminds me of the style used by Eye of Error on his Haemonculus.
Lady Vampire Wino Diorama by EoE from Eye of Error - Some inspiration...
Meat for Meta: Brief History of Playtesting by TastyTaste from Blood of Kittens - Although I'm not a fan of some of the things TastyTaste has done... these sort of articles offer some insight into why things the way they are. For example, we are a few days out from Eldar going up for Advance order, and yet, only now are we getting leaked content.

Forge World: Newsletter 288
If I was a fluff nutter this would be a perfect opportunity to go on about how Black Templars hate the witch, xenos and heretic... and therefore since I play them must share these feelings. Fortunately, I am not a fluff nutter...
Hi there,
In this week’s newsletter we’ve got details of a new Phantom Titan weapon option and a new Eldar special character which are both now available to pre-order, as well as a reminder of our Christmas shipping deadlines – phew! Read on for more…

Forge World: Newsletter 269
Despite having no intentions of starting a new army, I am super excited about all the Eldar attention by Forge World. Especially the corsair conversion kit featured in the latest newsletter...
Hi there,
With only a few days left before we throw wide our doors for the 2011 Forge World Open Day, we can now confirm four more fantastic pre-release items that will be on sale at the event, including the first Forge World Realm of Battle Gameboard expansion tile! Can get details about the open day on the BnC andWarseer. Records of Warseer have been expunged due to evidence of corruption.
Pre-Release Kits on sale at the Forge World Open Day
Realm of Battle Gameboard Imperial Strongpoint Expansion
An exciting new addition to Forge World’s finely detailed resin scenery range is the Imperial Strongpoint Expansion. Designed for use with the Citadel Realm of Battle Gameboard, this 2' by 2' tile is a superbly detailed fortified stronghold that will make a great feature for armies to fight over in your Warhammer 40,000 battles. It looks cool... may be a purchase for the future.
Comprising a power generator, two reinforced defensive positions, dragons-teeth tank traps and huge, armoured blast doors dug into a central hill, the Imperial Strongpoint Expansion is cast from a hollow resin as durable and sturdy as the plastic Realm of Battle Gameboard tiles available from the main Games Workshop range.
Perfect for representing critical objectives such as a command and control facility, or a fortified artillery pit, the Imperial Strongpoint can be used in games of Planetstrike as a unique Bastion or to represent a huge variety of stratagems, strategic assets and other rules in Battle Missions, games of Apocalypse and other Warhammer 40,000 battles, not to mention the Games Day Armies on Parade competition.
Exclusively available at the Forge World Open Day on Sunday 3rd April, prior to its main release date later this year, the Realm of Battle Imperial Strongpoint, designed by Stuart Williamson, costs £60. Given that the rather plain extensions for the Realm of Battle Board costs 56 pounds, this is a fairly reasonable price when you consider the detail on it.

Weekly Finds #21
Been a quiet and lazy week for me. Did very little work on the Victorian Crusade. Instead watched Youtube videos of College Humor great way to waste hours. While I've been enjoying Jake and Amir, the rest of the interwebz has been talking about Grey Knights, Space Monkeys and even more Grey Knights. Fortunately, the interwebz has things other than Grey Knights to offer...
A quick look at wet blending by Ron from Black Dot Barrel Studios - At first, I was afraid that Ron would fall into obscurity following his move from FTW. However, a month later, he is still producing content that is not only amazing but also helpful. Something else that will help improve your painting is a wet palette such as this home made one by RealGenius.
Wave Serpent Turret Conversion by Master Manipulator from Every Store Needs One - When you compare the standard Games Workshop turret to the Forge World turret, can start to appreciate why the Master Manipulator decided to convert his own. And while we are talking about Eldar take a look at that... pretty.
Vehicle Squadrons by Kirby from Pinktastic Blog - With the new BT FAQ this article will be extremely useful in giving new and old players the necessary information when building their lists. Help explain why MM/HF goes solo while HB/CML goes in squadrons of two. Especially, since there are several members on the BnC who have no clue what they are saying...
Desert Eagles wip by Desert Eagle from The Bolter & Chainsword - It is kind of funny how cool it was when I came across the latest offerings by Desert Eagle. After readings Kirby's post about squadrons, I went looking for more pictures of the Rogue Trader Land Speeders with very little luck. They look awesome sauce. And then BAM! came across this conversion. True story. If you like looking at stunning count-as Deathwing/Loganwing than take a look through the thread... well worth it. It's full of great ideas.

Steve White's Chaos Theory by Mark from What's New Today - Some of my imaginary friends may recognise this army from the feature they had on the blog last year in August. But for those who missed out, now is your chance to witness the majesty that is Tortoise's Canticle of Pleasure and Pain. It is also cool that he works for Forge World.
40K: Winning the No-Win Scenario by Jwolf from Bell of Lost Souls - This is a brain exercise on possible ways to deploy a Dark Eldar force against Imperial Guard in Capture & Control a.k.a auto-draw. These sort of exercise are great not only for DE players, but for all players. It helps players get used to thinking what their opponent is capable of. This article by Ron opened my eyes to the bliss of certain players. Never realised some players were unaware of the design faults with the missions.
The Basics - Interlude (Ramona A. Stone/Heart of Lothian/Troops at 1750) by TKE from Mind War, ftw! - There is a bit of rambling... but the article is still good. As he says it isn't a definitive guide but it does give players something to think about. Another two posts that are similar is this one by Mike, about army cores, and this one by Stelek, about the 4+2 concept.
White Dwarf launch and Friday Hobby by Mark from What's New Today - Another one about What's New Today. However, this time it is about the way Gary Shaw achieved the weather on his Grey Knight Stormraven. Although Grey Knights are associated with a crisp clean coat of paint, the weathering on this looks stunning and wouldn't be out of place surrounding by pristine Grey Knights.

Forge World: Newsletter 255
The latest Forge World Newsletter with some goodies for Space Marine players....
Hi There,
This week’s Newsletter brings you a fresh wave of Space Marine kits to pre-order, along with two more A4 Transfer Sheets packed with vehicle and infantry decals and a reminder of our Christmas shipping deadlines and opening times.
Thanks, Ead Brown
Land Raider Achilles Available to Pre-Order Now
The first of our new wave of Space Marine releases is the devastatingly powerful Land Raider Achilles. This resin and plastic hybrid kit, designed by Stuart Williamson, boasts sponson-mounted twin Multi-Meltas and a hull-mounted Thunderfire Cannon. A line-breaker beyond compare, the Land Raider Achilles’ firepower is capable of forcing a breach in even the strongest defences at the tip of an armoured assault.
Originating in the closing years of the Great Crusade, the Achilles is perhaps the rarest and most venerable Land Raider variant still used on the battlefields of the 41st Millenium. It was originally created by the Imperial Fists Legion in response to a dire xenos threat now lost to the mists of history, and fittingly rare outside the noble Imperial Fists, their successors like Black Templars biatchs and the Ordo Reductor of the Adeptus Mechanus. The Achilles is perhaps most vaunted for its legendary durability - each stage of the hull’s construction incorporates layer upon layer of ancient electromagnetic algorithms and ferromantic incantations. This arcane lore is etched into the very structure of the Land Raider Achilles at a molecular level, and is one the most secret and ancient rites of the Cult Mechanicus.
The Land Raider Achilles is a complete resin and plastic kit, and is available to pre-order now for despatch in the week commencing December 6th, and is included in the Space Marine Siege Assault Vanguard army list in the forthcoming Imperial Armour Volume 10: The Badab War Part II. As an exclusive extra, we have prised the rules for the Achilles from Alan Bligh’s grasp and they are available to download for free here. I want one... but does anyone know which chapter the above Achilles is from? They only cost 58 British pounds which works out to be similar in price to what I'd pay for a normal Land Raider in Ozlandus.
Forge World MkIV Ironclad Dreadnought and Arms Available to Pre-Order Now
The latest addition to our range of MkIV Dreadnoughts is the siege specialist MkIV Ironclad Dreadnought, MkIV Hurricane Bolter, MkIV Seismic Hammer and MkIV Chainfist. These full resin kits, designed by Phil Stutcinskas, afford Space Marine players the complete range of Codex options for the Ironclad Dreadnought. Heavily augmented and outfitted for siege assault and ship boarding actions, the Ironclad Dreadnought sacrifices versatility and long-range firepower for even greater armoured defence and dedicated siege weaponry such as the Seismic Hammer and Chainfist, designed to pulverise the toughest bastion or armoured bulkhead into twisted wreckage. The fearsome short-ranged firepower of a Hurricane Bolter is often used to augment the Ironclad’s firepower, allowing the ancient hero within the sarcophagus to saturate breached defences with a deadly storm of bolter shells. The MkIV Ironclad Dreadnought is a full resin kit that comes complete with Hunter Killer Missiles and Frag Assault Launchers, furthering the Ironclad’s potent weaponry, as well as additional armour plates to fit the resin MkIV Hurricane Bolter, MkIV Seismic Hammer and MkIV Chainfist and our other MkIV Dreadnought arms. Each of these detailed kits is available to pre-order now for despatch in the week commencing December 6th.

The Hornet is a light tank employed by Eldar armoured forces in a fast reconnaissance and raiding role. Hall of Honour - Centrati Crusade
The Purging of Centrati's Eye -
Above the recently colonized and settled planet of Centrati, the massive defense station nicknamed "Centrati's Eye" was struck and overtaken by a group of Dark Eldar raiders in a lightning raid. All of the station's personnel were locked in chains and sent off in slave arks to the darkest reaches of space, never to be seen again. Not satisfied with this victory, the twisted aliens took to turning the energies of the station upon on the planet below, vaporizing thousands of colonists and years worth of effort instantly.
Unknown to the Dark Eldar, a Black Templar Battlebarge lie in orbit on the opposite side of the planet. The Chapter had been dispatched earlier that week to remove an unwanted alien species from the world to help speed the colonization process. Upon receiving the distress voxes emanating from the defense platform, along with the massive energy discharge directed at the planet, the Dark Eldar threat was realized. Thunderhawks scrambled to pick up the ground forces and rendezvous with the Battlebarge. Within an hour of the devastating blast from Centrati's Eye, the Black Templars were on their way to drive out the Dark Eldar and exact vengeance.
Upon reaching Centrati's Eye, the chapter was faced with not one but two enemies. Eldar forces had arrived out of nowhere and were busy fighting their twisted cousins. Needless to say, the Black Templars took to their duties with impunity, utterly crushing both forces over the coming months. Centrati's Eye was retaken and the alien taint removed from both the surface of the planet and the space surrounding it.
Order of the Black Cross
This award is often seen among Black Templars fighting in Crusades across the galaxy. The Order of the Black Cross is awarded to individuals who sustain crippling injuries yet continue their duties as if nothing ever happened. Brother Hectarius actually has no arms or legs made of flesh or bone -- they are all bionic. A golden left knee pad with the Chapter symbol designates this award.
Dagger Protectiva
Only the most decorated and ferocious Initiates were awarded the Dagger Protectiva during the Centrati Crusade. As such, only the best-of-the-best got the chance to display this honor. Furthermore, all of the Initiates who received this honor during the Crusade were later inducted into to Sword Brethren. However, the golden dagger affixed to the right shoulder pad is more than just a decoration of honor. In fact, it incorporates a minor refractor field that protects the bearer.
Hexagrammic Wards
Sergeants and exceptional Initiates were occasionally issued Hexagrammic Wards to protect wearers from the evil Magiks used by the Eldar Witches. Often, the Wards took the form of a golden Templar cross worn on a chain around the neck coupled with a deep red robe infused with charms and woven with litanies.
Bolter Modification: Witch-Bolts
Modifications are not difficult to apply to the versatile bolter, though they are reserved for special circumstances for the most part. When faced with battle against possible Eldar Warlocks and the horrors of Dark Eldar Warp manipulation, the Templars responded in kind. Witch-bolt ammo feeds were issued to three Initiates per Crusader Squad for just such instances. The specially treated ammo is designed to disrupt deviants who rely upon the Warp for strength.
Centrati Crusade Badge
As is the case in nearly every Crusade, a unique badge is designated to signal that a particular Initiate is involved in its operations. The Centrati Crusade was no different. The badge is a simple white shield with a large red dot in the center and a tiny red dot just above it. This iconography represents the planet of Centrati and the Defense Platform orbiting it. These badges often help to identify who's who when diplomatic or other duties call a warrior from the battlezone.

Forge World: Games Day UK 2010
Once again Forge World has released a done of stuff that has resulted in dozens of wives, partners and wallets cringe at the thought of how much money we nerds will spend on the extremely addictive resin crack. I have tried to compile all the images and comments relating to Forge World from this years Games Day UK. I'll be updating it as more stuff emerges... okay turns out there are way too many pictures to go into a single post. So I've made links...
Imperial Armour 11 is certainly Eldar and an as yet unnamed Space Marine Chapter (Wolves perhaps). Phantom Titan sketch model was on display again. Some FW Ironclads, a new Land Raider Achilles with Thunderfire Cannon, Sponson Multimeltas and extra armour and Eldar Light Tanks.

White Dwarf 237 - September 1999
In this month's issue of White Dwarf...
- Arrogant Threat - A young Gavin Thorpe shares his thoughts and insights into the newly released Codex: Eldar. We see how changes made to the Wave Serpent in '99 have continued all the way through 5th and 6th Edition.
- Rebrith - A short story by Gav Thorpe about a Striking Scorpion Shrine and the unexpected arrival of Karandras.
- Eldar Guardians - A look at the Guardian Sprue created by Mike McVey and Jes Goodwin. The basic guardian sculpt can still be found in the current incarnation of the box set.
- Path of the Warrior - Continuing with the Eldar focus, Gav Thorpe shares some information on Craftworld Biel-Tan and the Path of the Warrior including rules for the Court of the Young King.
- The World of the Bloodied Sword - Another short story by Gav Thorpe about arrogant humans on an Eldar Maiden World. To me this is a must read for any Eldar enthusiast. It shows the intertwined relationship between the Exodites, Craftworlds, Corsair and denizens of Commorragh.
- The Oldest of Enemies - A look at the secret order of the Witch Hunters and the dreaded Vampires.
- A Tale of 40K Gamers - Ben Hall shows off his completed Sisters of Battle army.
- Orky Taktiks? - Andy Chambers and Adrian Wood share some thoughts on Ork Tactics. Even after changes in Editions the advice is still useful for new Ork Warlords.
- To Cleanse the Stars - Rules for Space Marine fleets are introduced to Battlefleet Gothic.
- Razorback - Games Workshop release a complete kit for the Razorback. it comes with turret options for either heavy bolter or twin-linked lascannons. When this kit was updated to reflect the new Rhino design the precedents was continued with the lascannon and twin-linked plasma guns option not included.
- Top Gear - Mike Walker takes a look at using Chariots in games of Warhammer Fantasy. Alessio Cavatore also shares his thoughts on some overly complex rules interactions. He suggests creating an easier approach for casual games and to continue using the more complex and detailed system in a competitive 'tournament' game.
- Out of the Warp! - 'Eavy Metal painter Rich Baker shares his views on collecting and playing with a Chaos fleet in Battlefleet Gothic.
- The Path to War - A battle report between Gav Thorpe's Eldar and Nick Davis' Imperial Fists with some Legion of the Damned in support rules included for them. Despite the Eldar being the latest release they still lost the game. Although if the game had been able to carry onto a 7th turn the largely intact Eldar army would have wiped out the remaining Space Marines and secured the objective a STC unit.
