Scuttledrone by Jeff Vader from Officio Convertorum - Something different to the typical skulls that are seen floating around in the background. The creepy hand reminds me of both the facehugger from Aliens and the Thing from Addams Family.

Step-by-Step Chaos Lord by Roman from Massive Voodoo - The build up of the rust armour and then the sudden change in plan is fascinating to see. Would have been interesting to see a video of the process with some running commentary by Roman.

Legio Fureans Thanatar Siege Automata WiP by EoE from Eye of Error - Such as simple conversion that adds some narrative to the miniature. Can just imagine the objective source lighting effect that will be applied.

Necron Tomb Stalker by Tyler M. from Mengel Miniatures - I've always been a fan of Tyler Mengel's miniatures. All the way back to his Sons of Dorn that featured in White Dwarf. This conversion is no different. I am particularly interested in the graphite appearance that he has achieved.

The Deaconess by Lasgun Packer from Pinterest - This is such an awesome conversion. There aren't enough female miniatures in our small hobby. And nearly all of those that we do have are out of proportion which makes some sense in a future that has gene-enhanced soldiers and servants. Can find more Inquisimunda styled conversion over on Pinterest.

Night Goblin Boss on Arabyan Carpet by Xoxtile from Tale of Painters - Cute isn't the sort of word used in game clubs across the word. Especially, not for the vile Night Goblins. But when I imagine a flying carpet I picture the one from Aladdin.

Simple Undead Paint Scheme by Rob from Games Workshop: Belfast - Such as simple, yet effective colour scheme for an undead army.

Nurgmlinator by Jeff Vader from Officio Convertorum - Jeff's growing Nurgle Warband constantly reminds me of why I want to collect a small force of Plague Marines. There are just so many possibilities when it comes to building and painting the children of Papa Nurgle...

The Minotaurs by Lorenzen from the Bolter & Chainsword - Continuing at a slow, but steady pace we get to see some more of Lorenzen's stunning Minotaurs. I particularity like the look of the black strip down the helmet.

There is less than two weeks until I turn 24 and a month away till I'm married. It's safe to say that it's getting stressful around here. So much in so that I've not picked up a paint brush for most of this month. Hopefully that changes next month with some time off before the big day...

The Emerald Guard by Migsula from Legion of Plastic - Migsula continues to show off his growing collection of Inquisitors and their warbands. The combination of Empire State Troops, Space Marine Scouts and an assortment of bitz has given me some ideas...

Castellax Battle-Automata by John Steining from 40K Hobby Blog - Forge World's Castellax are my favourite miniature out of their Adept Mechanicus collection even more than their Titans. So seeing one painted up in a style I like is always nice.

Ludovic's Marines Errant by Battle-Brother Ludovic from the Bolter & Chainsword - This pose reminds me of Jeff Vader's own conversion that uses the same bit from the fantastic Sternguard Kit. It's interesting to think that despite using different bitz the overall feel of the miniatures are so similar. Both are brilliant...

Inquisitor by Kari from Spiky Rat Pack - This is a very creepy miniature that fits perfectly into the Grim Dark universe of the Imperium. I doubt that the person that did this illustration expected it to be transformed into a miniature. The person that commissioned this is very lucky.

Painting Rust by David Soper from Sproket's Small World - A brilliant step-by-step tutorial that offers hobbyists yet another way to give their terrain and miniatures a realistic rust effect. I can imagine this being used on Chaos Space Marines that have pledged themselves to Nurgle.

Illustrations by Faust from Faust Labs - I came across this website thanks to Tears of Envy showing off some of Faust's concept work for Ghostbusters. Although I'm not interested in all of his illustrations and concept work. The below piece especially caught my eye as it mad me imagine a ship hold or sub-terrain level of a Hive set in the Warhammer 40K Universe. Well worth checking out.

Half a Dozen New Evisorators by Kari from Spiky Rat Pack - These are amazing... with the upcoming release of Codex: Inquisiton this idea has so much potential. Between the Dark Eldar Wyches and the Dark Elf Witches can easily build a coven of Death Cult Assassins. Just need to throw in some bitz from Flagellant Warband and Grey Knight kits...

Hussar 2013 by Volomir from Volomir's Blog - Photos of some of the best entries... after seeing these banners the other week I've been caught on the idea of trying free hand designs. I doubt I'll ever get as good as the two pictured below. But if you aim for the stars you may manage to hit the moon...

The rough, yet precise approach used by JRN works brilliantly... can see myself regularly using the phrase. The weathering on the robes reminds me of the style used by Eye of Error on his Haemonculus.

Meat for Meta: Brief History of Playtesting by TastyTaste from Blood of Kittens - Although I'm not a fan of some of the things TastyTaste has done... these sort of articles offer some insight into why things the way they are. For example, we are a few days out from Eldar going up for Advance order, and yet, only now are we getting leaked content.

Stryderre Stalker in Shadows by Kari from Spiky Rat Pack - This is creepy... it is the Imperial version of a Mandrake crossed with a zombie. The back-story written below is also a great touch. However, the nice surprise and the reason for this week's focus was the link at the end of this post.

The Art of Schwager by Fulgrim from Tears of Isstvan - I've never come across this blog in the past as far as I can remember. Which is a shame as it is full of great resources. The sketches below are just one example of the resources available. The Bretonnian Battle Pilgrims and Dark Eldar Warriors would offer some great starting pieces for some of the sketches below... Can see some of Christian Schwager's work on his website and blog such as this Medicae Servitor.

A Peek Under The Hood by izeColt from Spiky Rat Pack - Interesting concept... reminds me of John Blanche's weird and wacky artwork. But then again, izeColt has been heavily influenced by John Blanche's work.

Pigment Bases by Morback from Le Blog de Kouzes - I've seen several tutorials on applying pigments to miniatures especially tanks. But applying it to bases is something I can't recall seeing. As the below picture highlights very well, it is a technique that can really make a base pop.

How to Draw Skulls Forge World Style by Ron from FTW - These are more than just Forge World Skulls. These are Games Workshop's signature skulls. Pictures of these can be seen throughout codices and rule books. If I ever getting around to collecting and then painting an Imperial Guard army these skulls will decorate all of the vehicles...

Crimson Fist Forgeworld Apothecaries WIP by Sigur from Tale of Painters - Some of my favourite Forge World miniatures. Can't wait to see how these turn up when completed. The rest of Sigur's Crimson Fists are great... a little over the top when it comes to the weathering... but they look like they have been to hell and back. Something that all Space Marines should look like.

Scratchbuilt Inquisitor Mystic & Tools Review by Ron from FTW - This is possibly the best conversion Ron has produced to date. It just screams Grim Dark. Another "tentacle" maker is Masquerade Miniatures which offers three different sizes. Masquerade Miniatures also have another tool to consider when it comes to making unique, scratch built miniatures with their aptly named fur pattern tool... it doesn't make fur, rather it produces results that are similar to the texture of fur.

Mariners Blight Sorcerer by LuckyNo.5 from Eye of Error - To start off this weeks gallery of Work in Progresses is this amazing collection of bits. I love everything about this miniature and his Terminator brethren. This is going to be one amazing warband when completed... especially when you consider LuckNo.5's talents with a brush.

Sculpting Mustaches, Mohawks and Beards by Ron from FTW - I was wondering how hobbyists such as Ron go about adding hair to their miniatures... now I know. I am a fan of Marines with mohawks. However, it looks like getting it in the right place is just as important as getting the detail on it. The guide on creating mustaches is great for Black Templars.

Despite my brain being completely fried from work, I've managed to amass a large collection of twelve articles this week. They range from tutorials on sculpting all the way to the correct movement of vehicles. This week also sees the release of the much awaited expansion for both 'Nids and Space Wolves. It looks like I may be collecting a non-mechanised Space Wolf army... time will tell of course.

Servo Skull Collector by Jakob Rune Nielsen from miniaTEXTures - This miniature oozes with individuality. I can just imagine the servo skull collector being right at home in a John Blanche painting. It even has a small shield on his should like many of Blanche's own miniatures.

Sculpting Ultramarine Symbol by Garfy from Tale of Painters - The tutorial may be aimed at Ultramarine players. However, it is great for illustrating the importance of planning the process behind the design your trying to sculpt. Something that Ron from FTW has also talked about in the past.

Weekly Finds #63

It has been a busy crazy week for me. I've gone to Sydney Aquarium, Australian Museum, Taronga Zoo and today was the Power House Museum to see the Harry Potter Exhibition. Also found out where I'll be working next month which has gotten me excited. Fortunately next week will be more relaxed with my partner starting full time work after 3 years at University. Helps explain why we crammed in so many places to see in one week. Unfortunately, due to the busy schedule today, wasn't able to head down to the Tin Soldier to throw some dice. However, all of my finds this week were more than enough to give me my hobby fix...

How to Paint Space Wolves by Ron from FTW - This follows on well from last weeks tutorial on painting white. The method used to paint the black works well with the grey off white. It may only be table top standard but it pushes the quality of the miniature up a notch or two.

Instant Mold Review and Tutorial by Hellspawn from Chest of Colours - While procrastinating on Bolter and Chainsword I came across this post that linked to the review and tutorial by Hellspawn. I've read about Instant Mold in the past. But never given any thought to using it. But after seeing some of the work by Ron and Lamenter using Blu Stuff as well as some tutorials on resin casting, this article has got me curious.

Today was my last day of clinical placement. Started off slow and picked up within a few hours. Too tired to head out to Tin Soldier for some games. Instead relaxing at home and trying to ignore the nagging at the back of my mind to finish/start my assignments. Despite being too tired to game still managed to amass a collection of articles...

Blanchitsu Pays A Visit In The Rat Hatch by izeColt from Spiky Rat Pack - I'm a huge fan of Blanche's work. I doubt there are many GW hobbyists who aren't. This Inquisitor Warband has his magic touch... and best of all he has given me ideas on how to take the Cairn Wraith and give it a 40K feel.
