Grey Knights by Hexagon Sun from the Bolter & Chainsword - Of all the miniatures produced by Games Workshop over the years the Dreadknight is hands down my least favourite. It is safe to say I hate the miniature. In part it's because of the actually design with the harness on the front... stupid design and concept. Just doesn't fit into the Grey Knight imagery. But. This Dreadknight looks amazing. I love the weathering...
Carcharodon Astra by Talonatryu from the Bolter & Chainsword - While the Dreadknight is probably my least favourite miniature, the Contemptor Dreadnought is one of my favourites. It is everything the Dreadknight should have been. Talonatryu's Dreadnought pictured below helps to show why. It looks suitably brutal and intimidating...
- a looney journey for the advanced gamer from twelve years of age to one hundred and fifty and for that more competitive sort of gamer who likes challenges

Weekly Finds #93
I've got the house to myself today and have managed not to spend half of it sleeping... just a quarter of it. Which means I've had time to build miniatures and explore the interwebz.
In the Name of the Inquisition... by Dan Harden from What's New Today - Grey Knights and allied cannon fodderImperial Guard by Koen Cambre. The heavy weathering on the Guard contrasts nicely with the Grey Knights. However, it is refreshing to see some Grey Knights that aren't crisp and clean with Koen adding in some minor weathering. The weathering along with the bases helps tie the two forces in together far more effectively than the colour palette.
Wreck Age Table Remake (3) by Brian from A Gentleman's One - I'm sure the interwebz is familiar with Brian's terrain making skills. He is the mastermind behind The Heroes of Armageddon display table and the Killzone tables. If you are looking for inspiration for scenery his blog is probably one of the first places I'd direct you to... plus it is free unlike the Forge World team.
How to Make Plasticard Orc Shields by Gareth from Tale of Painters - A simple tutorial that produces some unique results. As can be seen on Gareth's Big Un Mob. Can also use this tutorial to produce some Black Orc styled shields.
It's Flicker Thursday by Dan Harden from What's New Today - An amazing Contemptor Dreadnought by Patrick Schimak. Can see more of Patrick's amazing collection on the Games Workshop Flickr page.
40k Metrics: Building Better Devastator by Nikephoros from Bringer of Victory - I'm a big fan of Nikephoro's metric posts. This one particularly caught my attention as I'm a big Iron Warriors fan. And for me Havocs fit into the imagery of Iron Warriors just as much as tanks with big guns. So it was a pleasant surprise to find out that Havocs carrying Autocannons are kings at killing light mech.

Weekly Finds # 81
Using Bricks by Roman from Massive Voodoo - These look like awesome little extras for basing. Or could easily be used to give gaming table some character by stacking them to create crumbling walls or roads in disrepair. Can pick them up from PK-Pro and Secret Weapon Miniatures.
Kapturowskis Space Wolves by Kapturowskis from the Bolter & Chainsword - Normally I despise Space Marines that have been dry brushed. However, these Space Wolves look utterly amazing using such a simple process. Kapturowskis also has some great look Death Guard and Grey Knights. Well worth a look...
New Sculpts Incoming by Col. Gravis from Col. Gravis' Blog - These would work nicely with Victoria Lamb's own conversion pieces.
How to Make Waterslide Transfers by Ron from FTW - These is also this tutorial by Ron on how to apply transfers onto miniatures. There are other tutorials on transfer application such as this one from Tale of Painters and this one by Pirate Viking Painting.

The Lord Inquisitor - Updates
It has been a while since I had a look at the progress on The Lord Inquisitor. It would have gone on even longer if I hadn't of noticed this post by Alec over at Apocalypse 40K. Two amazing announcement have recently been made...
Games Workshop decided to finally give me the 100% green light for this project and now this project is totally free and don’t has to hide anymore. The Emperor listened to our prayers and made the impossible possible: The first allowed fan movie for Warhammer 40,000
- Erasmus in Born to be free from The Lord InquisitorIt looks like Games Workshop realised just how ball aching good this really is. And it isn't just Games Workshop that realised just how awesome this is...
The main story writer for The Lord Inquisitor is Aaron Dembski -Bowden, well known for his Warhammer 40,000 novels for the Black Library and Horus Heresy. This is of course so cool, I don’t know what else to write – and there is probably no need for that.
So with the music composed by Adam Harvey we now have another fantastic and well known artist on board, what raised Lordi again up to a new level.

The Lord Inquisitor - Trailer
I've been following this project for a while. The quality of the animations is just mind blowing. It puts Ultramarines: The Movie to shame...
... let's hope that Games Workshop realize how good this is and doesn't try and stop it.

Weekly Finds #53
Today was my last day of clinical placement. Started off slow and picked up within a few hours. Too tired to head out to Tin Soldier for some games. Instead relaxing at home and trying to ignore the nagging at the back of my mind to finish/start my assignments. Despite being too tired to game still managed to amass a collection of articles...
Blanchitsu Pays A Visit In The Rat Hatch by izeColt from Spiky Rat Pack - I'm a huge fan of Blanche's work. I doubt there are many GW hobbyists who aren't. This Inquisitor Warband has his magic touch... and best of all he has given me ideas on how to take the Cairn Wraith and give it a 40K feel.

Weekly Finds #48
Step by Step: Hunter or Hunted by Raffa from Massive Voodoo - This is possibly the greatest tutorial of them all. It is not only done by Slayer Sword winner Raffa, but is a tutorial on the diorama that won him the sword. Seeing how the project developed with the techniques and tricks really makes me want to build some terrain and get some paint onto miniatures.

White Dwarf 378 June 2011 - Citadel Finecast
Inside this month's issue:
Citadel Finecast - The new product is presented as if it has dawned a new age in wargaming. In some ways it is true as there will be less metal miniatures on the board to have painted chipped off... of course I prefer metal over resin so this is a sad day for me.
Assembling Citadel Finecast - Continuing on from the blatant advertising of the new release, we get even more advertising in the form putting together resin miniatures. It is interesting to note that there is next to no flash on Warlord Queek.
Painting Citadel Finecast - Because Finecast resin is so very different to plastic, metal or even Forge World resin.
The Lords of Pain - This month sees the release of some storming new Dark Eldar skimmers a horde of twisted Haemonculi goodness. Simon Grant catches up with Phil Kelly, Jes Godwiin, and the designers responsible for the new miniatures.
Idols of the Desert God - Following on from the Tomb King release we get shown some of the Tomb KIng models that have been released in Finecast resin. The Ushabti have been re-released and there is the new Liche Priest, Necrotects and Prince Apophas. This includes some background on the cursed scarab lord as well as his rules.
Tactica Tomb Kings - I don't play Tomb Kings or Warhammer Fantasy, so can't make any comments on the advice given by Robin Cruddace. Of course this is White Dwarf so we can assume it is bad or pointless.
Tactica Grey Knights - Mat Ward doesn't touch on tactics. Rather it is a review of the codex with a look at some of the units, wargear and special rules. Of course the interwebz is full of such reviews. On a side note a comment by Mr Ward makes it clear that the design team are actually aware of how the game mechanics work. He pointed out that taking vehicles offers added speed and fire power.
Battle Report Kinstrike - To be honest didn't bother reading the Battle Report. They aren't interesting. Just another way to advertise miniatures... this time the new Dark Eldar miniatures. Maybe if the armies were private collections of the players it would be more interesting. But as it is just boring.
Standard Bearer - Following on from last month get a look at the last four of the "Top 8 Miniatures". The fifth miniature is Mephiston, the sixth is Sam and Bill the Pony, the seventh is the Baneblade and the eighth is Witchfate Tor.
Armies on Parade - Get a look at some High Elves, Tyranids, Orks & Goblins, Tau and Dwarves. The Carnifex by Tom Hutchlings is posed to look like the old Screamer. Shame the actual unit is so weak in terms of the game.
Matt Weaver's Space Wolves - This army was featured on the Games Workshop blog can't find where. The paint job is just table top and there isn't much in terms of kitbash conversions. However, the Thunder Wolf Lord conversion is ducking awesome. A Techmarine hardwired into the wolf...

Weekly Finds #30
Busy week like the last two, but I've managed to collect a few more articles this time...
The KISS strategy by Spaguatyrine from The Back 40K - Players may not agree with everything Spaguatyrine has to say, but it is a thought provoking article that will challenge how some players think and behave. This idea, from Strictly Average, also relates to the idea of saving time as well as just being better organised for the heat of battle.
Sanguinary Phalanx Chapter Master WIP by Maz from Winterdyne Commission Modelling - I've wanted to collect an army with a Greek theme for awhile. At the same time I've wanted to collect a Sanguinary Guard army using the Flesh Tearers... seems like that is out the window after seeing this miniature.

White Dwarf 377 May 2011 - Tomb Kings
Inside this month's issue:
Sand and Stone - Andy Hall has a talk with the author and sculptors of the Tomb King release. Get shown some new miniatures, rules for the Warsphinx, bits that make up the Necropolis Knights and the usual sort of army lists.
Illuminations: Tomb Kings - Get six pages of Tomb King artwork as well as some commentary by Andy Hall.
Citadel Hall of Fame - In this month's Hall of Fame Jes Goodwin's Eldrad is nominated. Can find the interviews, pictures and other Hall of Fame miniatures on the website here.
Battle Missions: Grey Knights - Game Developers Phil Kelly, Mat Ward, Robin Cruddace and Matthew Hobday present three new Battle Missions for Grey Knights.

Tribes of the Orcs and Goblins - Jeremy Vetock shares his thoughts on adding character to an Orcs and Goblins tribe/mob/horde.
The Land of the Dead - A quick tutorial on painting Tomb King terrain as well as a look at some of the bits and kits that went into making the terrain.

The Valley of the Dead - A boring battle report between the Tomb Kings and High Elves...
Standard Bearer - In this month's issue Jervis Johnson shares 4 of the 'Top 8 Miniatures of All Time". The first is Chaos Warrior with Bone Armour, Second is Space Marine Tactical Squad, Third is Goblin Regiment and fourth is Morg 'N Thorg from Blood Bowl.
'Eavy Metal - Get some pictures of Tomb Kings and little comments... but nothing in the way of real advice on painting miniatures.
Army Workshop: Rise of the Crimson King - Despite being nothing more than table top standard, Duncan Rhodes' Tomb King army looks stunning. The use of black, red, white and bone gives some great contrast. Shame there weren't more displays of different armies like this one.

Forge World: Newsletter 270
Forge World may be known for it's wacky, unbalanced rules, but only days after the release of Codex: Grey Knights they have come out with their own FAQ...
Hi there,
In this Newsletter we have an exciting Inquisitorial rules update for you to download along with some information about future events that Forge World will be attending.
Forge World Grey Knights and Inquisition Rules Updates
The recently released Codex Grey Knights and accompanying range of new plastic kits are now available in Games Workshop Hobby centres the world over, and Forge World writer Alan Bligh has taken a short break from his work on forthcoming Imperial Armour and Warhammer Forge books to update the rules for Forge World’s range of Grey Knights and Inquisition models. Who in their right mind doesn't like the Inquisitor Hector Rex model...

White Dwarf 376 April 2011 - Grey Knights
Inside this month's issue:
The Masters of Titan: In a round-table discussion with the sculptors of the new miniatures, Andy Hall unveils the Grey Knights in all their glory. Catching up with Codex author Mat Ward, Andy also discusses their origins and development.
Green Invasion: He's Back! Jeremy Vetock graces this issue with an in-depth look at the Waaaghs! of the Warhammer world, including some of the lesser-known, but equally destructive ones.
A New Alliance: Simon Grant discusses allies in War of the Ring, with ideas and practical advice on the pros and cons of seeking aid from beyond your borders.
Games Day & Golden Daemon 2010: Andy Hall is your guide on a tour of last year's Games Days from around the world, featuring a gallery of all the Slayer Sword winners and highlights from each event.
A Light in the Grim Darkness: This month's battle report pits the noble Grey Knights against the insidious Chaos Daemons. Kevin Chin honours his sworn duty to hunt down and defeat Tom Hutchings' daemonic incursion on the planet of Skyraak.
Standard Bearer: In this month's issue Jervis takes a look at the heart-rending part of games development, which he refers to 'Murdering Your Darlings'. This is a simple mantra that can be just as appropriate for army lists and fanfiction. However, some might say that Codex: Dark Angels and Codex: Chaos Space Marines got the short end of the stick as a result of this mantra.
'Eavy Metal: A showacase of the new Grey Knights by 'Eavy Metal.
Citadel Hall of Fame: In this month's issue Alan Merret nominates Aly's Dwarf Daemon Slayer. I can actually remember thinking how ridiculous those miniatures looked. But in a good way. Dave Thomas' Garagrim Ironfist has to be my favourite of the range. Being naked makes him the most ridiculous of all the Slayers.
Modelling Workshop: Grey Knights: Matt Holland and Chad Mierzwa show you ow to get the best poses for each of your Grey Knight squads, as well as demonstrating how to paint them.
Army Workshop: Flesh Tearers: Hobby masters Duncan Rhodes and Nick Bayton unveil their new Flesh Tearers army for all to see. This includes a four step guide on how Duncan went about painting the army.
You'll also find full details of all the latest releases and news, a directory featuring all of the hobby activities in your local area.

Weekly Finds #21
Been a quiet and lazy week for me. Did very little work on the Victorian Crusade. Instead watched Youtube videos of College Humor great way to waste hours. While I've been enjoying Jake and Amir, the rest of the interwebz has been talking about Grey Knights, Space Monkeys and even more Grey Knights. Fortunately, the interwebz has things other than Grey Knights to offer...
A quick look at wet blending by Ron from Black Dot Barrel Studios - At first, I was afraid that Ron would fall into obscurity following his move from FTW. However, a month later, he is still producing content that is not only amazing but also helpful. Something else that will help improve your painting is a wet palette such as this home made one by RealGenius.
Wave Serpent Turret Conversion by Master Manipulator from Every Store Needs One - When you compare the standard Games Workshop turret to the Forge World turret, can start to appreciate why the Master Manipulator decided to convert his own. And while we are talking about Eldar take a look at that... pretty.
Vehicle Squadrons by Kirby from Pinktastic Blog - With the new BT FAQ this article will be extremely useful in giving new and old players the necessary information when building their lists. Help explain why MM/HF goes solo while HB/CML goes in squadrons of two. Especially, since there are several members on the BnC who have no clue what they are saying...
Desert Eagles wip by Desert Eagle from The Bolter & Chainsword - It is kind of funny how cool it was when I came across the latest offerings by Desert Eagle. After readings Kirby's post about squadrons, I went looking for more pictures of the Rogue Trader Land Speeders with very little luck. They look awesome sauce. And then BAM! came across this conversion. True story. If you like looking at stunning count-as Deathwing/Loganwing than take a look through the thread... well worth it. It's full of great ideas.

Steve White's Chaos Theory by Mark from What's New Today - Some of my imaginary friends may recognise this army from the feature they had on the blog last year in August. But for those who missed out, now is your chance to witness the majesty that is Tortoise's Canticle of Pleasure and Pain. It is also cool that he works for Forge World.
40K: Winning the No-Win Scenario by Jwolf from Bell of Lost Souls - This is a brain exercise on possible ways to deploy a Dark Eldar force against Imperial Guard in Capture & Control a.k.a auto-draw. These sort of exercise are great not only for DE players, but for all players. It helps players get used to thinking what their opponent is capable of. This article by Ron opened my eyes to the bliss of certain players. Never realised some players were unaware of the design faults with the missions.
The Basics - Interlude (Ramona A. Stone/Heart of Lothian/Troops at 1750) by TKE from Mind War, ftw! - There is a bit of rambling... but the article is still good. As he says it isn't a definitive guide but it does give players something to think about. Another two posts that are similar is this one by Mike, about army cores, and this one by Stelek, about the 4+2 concept.
White Dwarf launch and Friday Hobby by Mark from What's New Today - Another one about What's New Today. However, this time it is about the way Gary Shaw achieved the weather on his Grey Knight Stormraven. Although Grey Knights are associated with a crisp clean coat of paint, the weathering on this looks stunning and wouldn't be out of place surrounding by pristine Grey Knights.

Weekly Finds #20
Seems to have been a slow week when it comes to hobby content... I suspect it is because everybody is excited about the upcoming Grey Knights. Regardless of this, here are the articles, posts and whatevers from the past week...
Who Really Benefits From Fell No Pain? By Sandwyrm from the back 40k - This is a post dedicated to mathhammer or law of averages as the guys and gals at GW call it. As the title suggest it is about Fell No Pain, and attempts to show that it isn't that big of an advantage for Grey Knight Terminators. Which is true when compared to Dark Eldar. However, with that said, the comment by Chaosheade illustrates that it is still a good thing even if only a small one.
Secret Weapon Washes For Sale by LBursley from Awesome Paint Job - I'm not sure how many are aware of this, but some time ago Les Bursley provided a range of washes. However, due to some reasons or other he had to stop producing them and instead wrote up a tutorial on how to be a mad scientist. Can find it here. And now it appears that they have returned with an even wider range of washes. These will be a great supplement, or even replacement, to Games Workshops range.
Ashdown's Black Templars by Ashdown from The Bolter & Chainsword - The vehicles in this thread are a great source of inspiration. The weathering that Ashdown has achieved on his Venerable Dreadnought is stunning. I'm looking forward to seeing further progress on these miniatures.
How To: Painting Dark Eldar Mandrakes by RealGenius from The Painting Corps - A follow on from last weeks post on preparing Mandrakes. These guys look completely and utterly different to the 'Eavy Metal version. The orange, purple and green work well in creating a unique negative Dark Eldar.
Hobby: Strictly Average Top Tips, Too! by Brent from Bell of Lost Souls - We love you Brent! 'Nuff said. I've got to get myself a wet palette. Find out tomorrow if Eckersley stocks them.
Brent is my online super hero... he hasn't fallen into the trap of categorising other interwebz users. Rather he does something that I can't figure out how to describe since it is mid-night and I've gotta get up in 6 hours for a long, boring day at University. Regardless, we love you Brent!

Chapter 666 - Incoming Grey Knights
An email that I'm sure lots of my imaginary friends have also gotten...
'We are the warriors of the Grey Knights, armoured in Faith, shielded by Devotion and armed with Purity of Purpose. But greater even than these, we carry the light of the divine Emperor of Man into the dark places to purge the daemonic wherever it may be found.' - Brother-Captain Stern of the Grey Knights, Prior to the Purging of Xoedic Binary 978.M41
In April the Grey Knights, an elite and secretive Chapter of Space Marines, will stand ready to fight the forces of Chaos and the horrors of the Warp with new reinforcements. Take a look at the Astronomican today to see the Studio's Incoming! article for more information about the legendary heroes that are the Grey Knights. The link isn't worth it. Just a longer version of this email... although it does confirm the rumors that it will be called Codex: Grey Knights.
