Step by Step Tutorial of Pedro Kantor by Raffa from Massive Voodoo - This is described as a fast tutorial... yet for the vast majority of hobbyists this would be considered professional and garner lots of jealousy. I can imagine that on a stock standard Space Marine that lacks all of the extra details, this would indeed work out to be a fast tutorial. Especially, when you consider how few colours are actually used.
Number Crunching the Troops by Anonymous Foodie from The Back 40K - A different approach to comparing the value of units on the table top. To a greater extent this article helps poke holes into the argument that mathhammer alone should win games. A must read before considering the opinions of interwebz personalities.
Eldar Wraithknight by Third Eye Nuke from Tale of Painters - Third Eye Nuke's approach to painting his wraith constructs draws some nice parallels with wraithbone, and more specifically Forge World's Wraithseer. Yet the weathering breaks it away from the traditional clean look. The colour scheme used has similarities with TEN's Tau miniatures.
Tau Codex Review: Markerlights by Abuse Puppy from the Pinktastic Blog - Can see the overview for the series here.
- a looney journey for the advanced gamer from twelve years of age to one hundred and fifty and for that more competitive sort of gamer who likes challenges

Weekly Finds #90
Mariners Blight Jet Bikes by Luck No. 5 from Eye of Error - I love this whole army. All of the little details work together to produce something amazing. The use of the shields is probably my favourite element of the army. Reminds me of John Blanche's own work such as in this Inquisitor Warband.
Tutorial Light Your Workplace by Roman from Massive Voodoo - Little doubt that these lights offer some great lighting. And it sounds like their features have great benefits such as the low heat output... a problem I used to have with my old lighting set up. However, I won't be rushing out to change my light set up any time soon due to their high cost and the fact they will be shipped all the way to Ozlandus.
Crimson Fists Stormtalon by Sigur from Tale of Painters - More Stormtalons can be seen over on 40K Hobby Blog. It is interesting to see just how different hobbyists go about painting their miniatures... even when they are both blue in this case.
Imperial Minerals Skitari by Migsula from Legion of Plastic - I like the concept of an Adept Mech Servitor being styled as a robot. However, I'm not a fan of the pinkish red, or that the miniature just doesn't offer much to suggest it's allegiance to the Mechanicus. The use of glass domes to showcase miniatures is something I hope to do... once I actually start painting my horde of plastic.
Ocher, Oil & Mud by Morback from The Blog de Kouzes - This is a beautiful collection of steam punk and British World War I mixed in together. The miniature is available from Blight Wheel Miniatures alongside the Adeptus Mechanicus styled miniatures also featured in the blog post.

Weekly Finds #85
A Peek Under The Hood by izeColt from Spiky Rat Pack - Interesting concept... reminds me of John Blanche's weird and wacky artwork. But then again, izeColt has been heavily influenced by John Blanche's work.
Pigment Bases by Morback from Le Blog de Kouzes - I've seen several tutorials on applying pigments to miniatures especially tanks. But applying it to bases is something I can't recall seeing. As the below picture highlights very well, it is a technique that can really make a base pop.
How to Draw Skulls Forge World Style by Ron from FTW - These are more than just Forge World Skulls. These are Games Workshop's signature skulls. Pictures of these can be seen throughout codices and rule books. If I ever getting around to collecting and then painting an Imperial Guard army these skulls will decorate all of the vehicles...
Crimson Fist Forgeworld Apothecaries WIP by Sigur from Tale of Painters - Some of my favourite Forge World miniatures. Can't wait to see how these turn up when completed. The rest of Sigur's Crimson Fists are great... a little over the top when it comes to the weathering... but they look like they have been to hell and back. Something that all Space Marines should look like.
Scratchbuilt Inquisitor Mystic & Tools Review by Ron from FTW - This is possibly the best conversion Ron has produced to date. It just screams Grim Dark. Another "tentacle" maker is Masquerade Miniatures which offers three different sizes. Masquerade Miniatures also have another tool to consider when it comes to making unique, scratch built miniatures with their aptly named fur pattern tool... it doesn't make fur, rather it produces results that are similar to the texture of fur.

Weekly Finds #71
I'm a week away from hitting number 72 of my weekly finds. For some reason that number will be important to me. Yet there will be nothing at all significant about it... much like my 22nd Birthday which is tomorrow. Subtle B-bomb...
Jodorowsky's Dune by Matt Colville from Squaremans - I was completely engrossed by this article. Matt Colville's writing style completely captured my attention. It is no secret that Warhammer 40K has been heavily influenced by the novel Dune. Both the film by David Lynch and the first Alien movie had come out well before Rogue Trader was released. Even Blade Runner had been out for a few years. So to read this article and see a few pieces of this artwork was like a chocoholic getting a glimpse into Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory. I hope to watch this documentary soon.

Weekly Finds #68
Ork Thunderhawk by Loken from Apocalypse 40K - This is an amazing scratch-build by Romeo from Battlefoam... yes you read that right, scratch-built. I can't not look at this and think Thundaork. Since seeing this I've been tempted to start collecting an Orks army just so I can scratch build all sorts of Orky things. As well as an excuse to buy an Ork Kill Busta Tank.

Warhammer 40,000 25th Anniversary Miniature Revealed
Pictures of the 25th Anniversary Warhammer 40,000 Miniature in next months White Dwarf have started to pop up on the interwebz. I am super excited...
I may not have been apart of the hobby during Rogue Trader due to not being alive and all. So this release has no nostalgic effect on me. But having something like this in my collection of unpainted miniatures would be awesome. Lets just hope that there are no issues with the molds for this Finecast miniature.

Weekly Finds #31
The last few weeks has seen alot of focus on the proud warriors of Dorn. This week is no different after I went looking for guides on sculpting fists...
Sculpting Crimson Fist Iconography by Shas'vre Shavaun from Advanced Tau Tactica - The sculpts may not be as clean as others. Such as those by Freak Forge. But they still convey the right idea and even up close they look good.

Another slow week with only three articles... but this week has a greater focus on competitive play.
Rhino Tactica by Stelek from Yes The Truth Hurts - This is the sort of tactical guide the interwebz needs. Trust Stelek to know what to do and how to explain it. Always nice to see that the things you do on the table top are consider good by the competitive elite.

Weekly Finds #12
Okay, so two weeks in a row of me not putting this up on Friday night... not like my imaginary friends mind or anything...
Imperial Guard Advisors by Drathmere from 40k Hobby Blog - It isn't so much this post that I wanted to highlight, but rather the last few posts by Drathmere over on his blog. The effects he is pulling off with washes would work great for some nice table top standard miniatures. Ron from FTW actually has some advice on using washes when it comes to painting miniatures which can be found in this weeks Warp Report.
Dreadnought Drop Pod (With Templates!) by Myles from There is Only War - I came across this awesome post through the Warp Report it really is a great addition to the blog-o-sphere by Ron.
Skaven: Painting the Hell Pit Abomination by Jim Sowter and Nick Bayton from Games Workshop - This is probably one of the best tutorials put out there by Games Workshop so far. Especially as it shows how to paint such large areas of flesh.
Painting a Glowing Powerfist by Ron from FTW - Although this isn't a technique I plan to make use of in the Victorian Crusade, it is still one of those cool tutorials I wish I was able to pull off to a satisfactory level. However, if you are interested there is also this tutorial by Drathmere and this other post by Ron.
Praetorian MkIV-I Gatling Gun by Col. Gravis from Col. Gravis' Praetorian Imperial Guard - This is one of those cool little bits of background that really takes an army to the next level.
Behind The Last Stand of the Crimson Fists by Volomir from Volomir's Blog - What can I say but WOW. The sheer amount of work that went into that project is just mind boggling.
Field Report: Dantes Painting Tips by Grey Death from The Painting Corps - For those who haven't seen the amazing works on Dante's Inferno then now is a perfect opportunity. The quality is on the same level as the guys from Massive Voodoo. I'm glad Grey Death pointed out this collection of useful tips... especially like the advice on brush stroke direction.
Black Templar Thoughts: One Week Later by Nikephoros from Bringer of Victory - This article follows on nicely from the one written the week prior. I share alot of Nikephoros' thoughts... especially when it comes to HQ choices and the pros/cons of Crusader Squads.

Hall of Honour - The Declates Crusade
The Declate Crusade has been a big source of inspiration for my own Black Templar crusade. So in an attempt to save the information on the off chance the GW article disappears off their website like lots of other great resources in the past I will be copy'n'pasting it here. I actually had to type this out since their website was c-blocking every attempt I made to copy the content...
When the Declates System got in the way of Waaagh! Gitzmott, entire worlds fell overnight. The Crimson Fists were dispatched quickly to stem the bleeding and deal with the Ork threat. Upon arrival, the venerable Chapter at first scored victory upon victory with hit-and-run attacks. However, the Crimson Fists began to lose ground as the immense Ork invasion brought its full weight to bear. It became apparent that help was needed, and fast. The massive Ork incursion was definitely heading in-system towards the valuable Forgeworld Declates IV and the densely populated hives of Declates V. The Imperium could not let these centers fall.
Nearby Black Templars heeded the call to arms, and soon the campaign was brought back to a sort of balance. It was on Declates VII that the fate of the system was determined. Gitzmott was located and slain on the barren plains of the planet by an Emperor's Champion. Leaderless, Gitzmott's forces lost focus and abandoned the field of battle. From there, it was a simple matter of mopping up the scattered alien forces. Hideous losses were incurred by both Chapters as the numbers were often 5 to 1. Despite these difficulties, both Chapters earned battlefield renown and are forever heroes of the Declates System.
Symbolic Crimson Fist
As a symbol of solidarity against what seemed to be an innumerable foe, Astartes from both Chapters "exchanged" iconography and often fought in mixed squads. Black Templars painted their left hands red, and Crimson fists painted a Templar cross onto their right knee. This unusual gesture of unity helped establish a tight bond that steeled the resolve of the brave warriors involved.
Crusade Veteran
Brother Atheon is a seasoned veteran of the Declates Crusade. He participated in several major operations geared to halt the greenskin menace. During this Crusade, right knee pads were reserved for Veteran designation. A plain white pad denoted 6 months service, with a red stripe added after the 1st complete year of service in the Crusade. Each 6 month period beyond a year would be represented with yet another red stripe.
Squad Designation (Knee)
Though it is slightly unusual for Black Templars to use numerical squad markings, this practice became necessary in this Crusade. Once heavy losses began piling up, ad-hoc squads became the norm, often with Chapters mixing together out of need. A quick number designation on the left knee helped commanders keep track of squad movements on the battlefield.
Chapter Unity Symbol
Another instance of Battle Brothers cementing their unity in the face of almost certain death was that of the red-and-black Templar cross. Adding a red sliver to each of the four spokes of the Chapter symbol visually conveyed this bond. Shown here, Sergeant Atheon was awarded a special Crusader Squad decoration for surviving injuries he received during the Eteron Push.
Squad Designation (Shoulder)
Shoulder pads were enumerated in the same fashion as the left knee pad to help keep squads straight. However, this number denotes the squad from which the Initiate originally came. In this case, Sergeant Atheon part of the 7th Crusader Squad and is consequently the only surviving member.
Ork Boss Kill Count
It is not uncommon for troopers to keep unofficial track of their kills or major accomplishments. This is seen as a good motivational tool by higher-ups, as Initiates seek to outdo one another on the field of battle. In this case, each white checker represents a particularly large or important Ork slain during the crusade.
Distinguished Combat Service
Sergeant Atheon displays not one, but two awards for Distinguished Combat Service. A golden elbow plate coupled with the Templar cross signifies that this is one Black Templar to heed when he speaks. Sword Brethren status can't be very far off for this devout servant of the Emperor.
Declates Crusade Badge
As is the case in nearly every Crusade, a unique badge is designated to signal in what actions a particular Initiate is currently involved. This badge helps identify who's who when diplomatic or other duties call a warrior from the battlezone. In this case, a thick red stripe through a white shield icon on the right leg signifies Atheon is currently involved in the Declates Crusade.
Previous Crusade Badge
The scraped remnants of a previous Crusade badge (possibly The Burning of Hemoria IV) decorate the inside of Atheon's left leg. It's not uncommon for warriors to continue to display earlier Crusade badges on their armor, though these old badges are normally shown with smaller markings elsewhere on the armor so as to avoid confusion on the current battlefield.
