Today marks another year that I've spent on this rock we call home. I've been eating food with friends, shopping with my soon-to-be wife and painting miniatures. So far it has been a great day. Tonight I'll be joining some friends and colleagues for dinner near work.

It's that time of year when we gather with family, eat way too much food and participate in a circle-jerk of present money giving. Yes, that's right my imaginary friends, it's Christmas.

Weekly Finds #114

A new year is upon us. I've managed to slowly pluck away at some of the miniatures I got for Christmas. And of course I continue to be baffled by the lack of intelligence some individuals have when presenting to Emergency Departments. I guess some things never change. Much like the amazing work hobbyist produce and share on the interwebz...

Dark Eldar Feathered Nightmares by Lucky No.5 from Eye of Error - The quality of this Dark Eldar Coven continue to amaze me. Not only are the wings stunning, but so is the glow effect. I also enjoy reading the short blurb with each of these posts...

Building a better Typhus by Tyler M. from Mengel Miniatures - The fourth and final instalment in this stunning conversion. It reminds me of a similar conversions I saw many years ago in White Dwarf. That conversion featured Typhus without a helmet and he only carried only decapitated head if I remember correctly.

Commission Helbrecht by Lil Loser from Lillegent Studio - The contrast between the warm and cold colours works well for this miniature. I actually prefer this colour scheme to the usual portrayal of the High Marshal. And it is another look at Black Templars with a warm black as opposed to the usual colder recipes seen.

Glory of Slaanesh by Karol Rudyk from Cool Mini or Not - I must thank Volomir for featuring this jaw dropping miniature in his monthly Do Not Miss. The prominent use of red and black is a nice change from the typical colours associated with servants of Slaanesh. Another of Karol's Daemons of Slaanesh can be seen here. Weekly Finds #100

The 100th post of Weekly Finds. Hard to imagine it has been going on for almost two years now. Over that time the blog has fallen into neglect more than a few times. I've finished University with my first degree, started working full time in a crazy arse Emergency Department and have made my first real steps into adulthood with the purchase of a house. And top top it off, this time next year I'll either be getting married or be on honeymoon... but enough of me reflecting on life. Time to look at what things have caught my attention this week...

Nurgle Cultists Troop Conversion by Ron from FTW - The Forge World Cultists kits look great. And from talking with both Mark Bedford and Jes Goodwin at Games Day Oz it seems like there wasn't much planning in making the Dark Vengeance miniatures matching up... and yet they do. Which goes to show how well defined certain elements of Chaos are. I'm curious to see how Ron goes about building the rest of the squad. The Nurgle Lord from the Fantasy range would look great included in this squad... just need some minor alterations. The Chaos Cultists unit entry from the up coming codex can be found amongst these photos.

WIP Thunderhawk Gunship by Garfy from Tale of Painters - More on Forge World... this time with Garfy's Thunder Hawk. Some time ago he detailed the process of preparing the miniature. Including the rather ingenious use of coat hanger wire to reinforce pieces such as the wings. We now get to watch the process of this huge kit being painted. The use of the white is great at breaking up all of the blue... curious to see if he does some weathering.

Slaughterfiend by Vladvar the Destroyer from Bolter & Chainsword - With the addition of Daemon Engines to the forces of Chaos this conversion will fit in great. Vladvar the Destroyer's Slaughterfiend shares several elements with Forge World's own Slaughterer... especially their Impaler version.

Tutorial: Artscale Terminator by Lamenter from Master of the Forge - It is always enlightening to see how the redonkulously skilled go about working their magic... There is also this article on sculpting that was featured several weeks ago. The armour banding that Lamenter creates may be of interest to those that want to add some chaos styled bands to vehicles and troops. Can also take a look at the tutorial on Artscale Space Marines.

Weekly Finds #80

I bought a house! Now comes the build up of excitement and stress as I get ready to move out of home. Plus the realisation that everything is going to change. Including the amount of free time to spend on my hobbies...

Gaze of Medusa by LilLoser from LilLegend Studio - The current Morathi shows it's age. Especially when compared to the newer additions to the Dark Elves range. Conversions like this not only bring it into line with the current kits but also match nicely with LilLoser's other Dark Elves. Can see the finished piece of work here.

Glory and Hate! by 1000heathens from the Bolter & Chainsword - These aren't the crispest looking marines. Yet the conversion work and the back stories are great. The below kit bash is without a doubt my favourite. It uses the very out dated Chaos Dreadnought as the foundation and works up layers of bad assery.

Maorians by Morback and Urlock from The Blog de Kouzes - A beautiful miniature... pose, conversions, base and free hand on helmet all come together. Alongside the Iron Angels this my favourite miniature from the Paint Master Astartes series. This is also the end to the Paint Master Astartes series on Le Blog de Kouzes.

How to Paint Novamarines Quartered Scheme by Ron from FTW - This is applicable to other armies such as Howling Griffins as well as adding heraldry to Space Marines in general just on smaller scale. I love the freehand that covers this Assault on Black Reach terminator. If it weren't the the icon on the right shin I'd have thought it was a multi-part kit.

I stumbled across this while taking a casual look at my blogger stats I'm not the only one that does it. It is flattering to know that I'm lost but not forgotten... maybe one day I'll go to the effort of letting everybody know that the url to le blog has changed.

Weekly Finds #63

It has been a busy crazy week for me. I've gone to Sydney Aquarium, Australian Museum, Taronga Zoo and today was the Power House Museum to see the Harry Potter Exhibition. Also found out where I'll be working next month which has gotten me excited. Fortunately next week will be more relaxed with my partner starting full time work after 3 years at University. Helps explain why we crammed in so many places to see in one week. Unfortunately, due to the busy schedule today, wasn't able to head down to the Tin Soldier to throw some dice. However, all of my finds this week were more than enough to give me my hobby fix...

How to Paint Space Wolves by Ron from FTW - This follows on well from last weeks tutorial on painting white. The method used to paint the black works well with the grey off white. It may only be table top standard but it pushes the quality of the miniature up a notch or two.

Hope all of my Imaginary Friends had a wonderful day with their family, friends, miniatures and/or minions.

Music Monday - Zombie

Sitting at the computer deciding what I should do tonight. Finished the final exam for my degree the other week and now playing the waiting game for results to be posted. One subject has me nervous fingers crossed I don't fail and have to do a reassessment or worse. But I've now got a whole lot of free time on my hands. Something that I haven't had the pleasure of for well over three months.

There is some paper work on my desk that needs filling out for the job I've been offered next year.. waiting to find out my roster for work in retail over the Christmas holidays.. and then there is the battlefoam bag full of unpainted miniatures and boxes of unassembled miniatures.. plus meeting up with friends that have been left neglected due to university.

As for the title of this post... I'm currently going through my iPhone reacquainting myself with the music on it and I realised this wasn't on it.

As for what to do... think I'll also reacquaint myself with paint and brushes... need to redevelop the muscle memory and decide how I want to go about painting black after I stripped the painted of everything again. The miniatures by Mad Matt have completely changed my thoughts on painting black...

Life and other stuff

Internet was down for past few days which meant that the weekly finds and Blogdex post that I had written up but not scheduled didn't go up until today. For those who haven't heard about BlogDex, then I highly recommend you find out what its about. And this was a pleasant surprise when finding out what I had missed out on without the interwebz...

MoD was probably the most important person in getting me to where I am now. He introduced me to YTTH.
