Seekers of Truth by Royal Cactus from the Bolter & Chainsword - You don't often see someone taking the loyalist Space Marine Terminators and converting them into Chaos Terminators. But this has really worked. The powerfist is just awesome.

Pandemonium Genesis Cultists by Kouzes le from Blog de Kouzes - A interesting approach to washing some cultists. I've never seen matt medium used before. So I'm not sure how unique this approach is... but it's something to consider given that I've got 35 of these guys to paint. There is also Games Workshops own Youtube tutorial.

Using Foamcore: Part 1 by Universal Head from The Esoteric Order of Games - I stumbled across this amazing website while looking for a way to store my Space Hulk. I've settled on the Battlefoam Tray insert. However, there is soooo much awesome contained in this website and associated forum. I'll have to get myself set up to create some foamcore inserts for my growing collection of board games.

Imperial Fist Captain by Luther from The Mighty Brush - I was googling for individuals that have used Vallejo Flat Yellow for their Imperial Fists when I found this miniature. The technique is different to my own. But it gives me some ideas for weathering.

Do Not Miss by Volomir from Volomir's Blog - There is just so many awesome articles and miniatures on display in this month's installment. The Wraithknight pictured below is just beautifully creepy. There is also a tutorial on painting skin with an airbrush which includes an interesting set of paints from Vallejo. Plus other things like using feathers on miniatures as well as some completed greens.

How to Paint Dark Angels' Robes by DarkJesterLord from Tale of Painters - I'm a fan of the dark, dritty look achieved with this approach. It looks a little undone. But it's something different to the bleached look that is often seen on 'Eavy Metal Dark Angels.

Shadows in the Storm by Flint from the Bolter & Chainsword - Some of the stories coming out of the Horus Heresy crowd are truly exceptional. There have been a couple of times I've gone through my eBook collection to find a story, only to remember I read it on the Bolter and Chainsword. However, it is the addition of the transparent plastic to the shield that really caught my attention. 

Index Astartes by Totem Pole from the Bolter & Chainsword - Despite this being an example of his quick paint jobs the quality is still envy inducing. I wish I could paint yellow and black that good. Can see more of his black here and I've shown his Imperial Fists before.

Scuttledrone by Jeff Vader from Officio Convertorum - Something different to the typical skulls that are seen floating around in the background. The creepy hand reminds me of both the facehugger from Aliens and the Thing from Addams Family.

Step-by-Step Chaos Lord by Roman from Massive Voodoo - The build up of the rust armour and then the sudden change in plan is fascinating to see. Would have been interesting to see a video of the process with some running commentary by Roman.

Legio Fureans Thanatar Siege Automata WiP by EoE from Eye of Error - Such as simple conversion that adds some narrative to the miniature. Can just imagine the objective source lighting effect that will be applied.

Necron Tomb Stalker by Tyler M. from Mengel Miniatures - I've always been a fan of Tyler Mengel's miniatures. All the way back to his Sons of Dorn that featured in White Dwarf. This conversion is no different. I am particularly interested in the graphite appearance that he has achieved.

The Deaconess by Lasgun Packer from Pinterest - This is such an awesome conversion. There aren't enough female miniatures in our small hobby. And nearly all of those that we do have are out of proportion which makes some sense in a future that has gene-enhanced soldiers and servants. Can find more Inquisimunda styled conversion over on Pinterest.

Night Goblin Boss on Arabyan Carpet by Xoxtile from Tale of Painters - Cute isn't the sort of word used in game clubs across the word. Especially, not for the vile Night Goblins. But when I imagine a flying carpet I picture the one from Aladdin.

Simple Undead Paint Scheme by Rob from Games Workshop: Belfast - Such as simple, yet effective colour scheme for an undead army.

The new edition of Warhammer 40K is upon us. When reliable rumours started to surface along with pictures I found my hobby drive return to me. Between work and wife I've slowly turned my bare plastic and metal army into something with colour. Pictures will be posted eventually...

Silver and Leather by Henry South from Four Go to War - The talented henry South shares some of his insight into painting metallics and leather. This approach to painting leather produces some amazing results and is something I've seen on the interwebz before.

The Red Baron by Cagn from Blog de Kouzes - This is a deeply involved conversion that just screams character. Can easily imagine it in an Eldar Corsair raiding party.

Showcase: Treeman Ancient by Third Eye Nuke from Tale of Painters - Although TEN's style of painting lacks some of the the advance techniques used by other painters, these miniatures just pop in a very unique way. The approach used here is just perfect. It gives the miniature a very ethereal feel.

Do Not Miss by Volomir from Volomir's Blog - Some great articles and tutorials that really can't be missed for those looking to improve their painting or just after some inspiration.

Sons of Horus Army Shot by John Stiening from 40K Hobby Blog - Although this army is far from complete, it is still very impressive and is a great case example of why Escalation isn't a bad thing.

Imperial Fists Step-by-Step by Arsies from Arsies Studio - Painting yellow has increasingly become easy with Games Workshop's latest release of new Citadel paints. However, achieving a high standard yellow is still complicated. This tutorial offers just one way of painting that envy inducing yellow.

Why Shooting is Even Better than in 5th Ed by Kirby from the Pinktastic Blog - I remember how assault was in 4th Edition rose-tinted glasses on. That isn't to say gun-line armies didn't stand a chance. But the game was balanced differently. Imagine how awesome those Godzilla themed Tyranid armies would have been with the latest releases...

Tutorial on Sculpting a Ruff by Ana from Garden of Hectate - I can just imagine somewhere in a hive city gangs fighting it out for a scrap of territory, all the while, hive nobles watching from the spires through the lenses of their ruff wearing Servo Skulls.

Pale Skin by Kari from Spiky Rat Pack - I love the work that the guys from Spiky Rat Pack do... so much character crammed into each of their creations. This tutorial highlights something that I've noticed of late on the interwebz and discussed a bit at my FLGS. The proper use of  washes and inks on base coats can produce just as amazing results as successive layers of wet blending. Midian's Nurgle Terminators are a great example of this.

Using Superglue by Roman from Massive Voodoo - This is so cool. Also take a look at the comments from the linked article with two great tutorials being shared by CzG.

Inquisitor by Kari from Spiky Rat Pack - This is a very creepy miniature that fits perfectly into the Grim Dark universe of the Imperium. I doubt that the person that did this illustration expected it to be transformed into a miniature. The person that commissioned this is very lucky.

Painting Rust by David Soper from Sproket's Small World - A brilliant step-by-step tutorial that offers hobbyists yet another way to give their terrain and miniatures a realistic rust effect. I can imagine this being used on Chaos Space Marines that have pledged themselves to Nurgle.

Illustrations by Faust from Faust Labs - I came across this website thanks to Tears of Envy showing off some of Faust's concept work for Ghostbusters. Although I'm not interested in all of his illustrations and concept work. The below piece especially caught my eye as it mad me imagine a ship hold or sub-terrain level of a Hive set in the Warhammer 40K Universe. Well worth checking out.

The Tyrant Rises by Tyler Mengel from the Bolter & Chainsword - Latest addition to his Astral Claw collection. These slow painting threads on Bolter & Chainsword are some of my favourite types. They aren't over-crowded with daily updates of table top quality paint jobs. Instead, you are treated to some weekly or monthly eye candy. And at some points in time, you get a squad shot or scenic picture that ties in months of previous work.

January's Do Not Miss by Volomir from Volomir's Blog - An amazing collection of articles from around the interwebz. The below conversion of Lelith Hesperax by Ringil is by far my favourite. Despite how horrendous Finecast has turned out to be, it didn't stop Ringil from having a go at this amazing sculpt. If anything, the flaws in Finecast forced him to do more than just have a go at painting the miniature. Also take a look at this banner...

No Answer to the Haterade by Tasty Taste from Blood of Kittens - This article states the obvious about two big things. Games Workshop has been hiding in their Silver Citadels thinking that White Dwarf and their Daily Blog are enough for customer interactions. Unfortunately the content is rather bland. And we aren't Amish so that isn't okay. And the other, with the interwebz, haters and fanbois can hide themselves away in their own little corners participating in a circle-jerk. This isn't unique to our little community. Take a look at political parties. This is known as an Echo Chamber and is one of the problems that has grown from the interwebz. Unfortunately, tackling these problems seems to be an impossible task...

Adrian Komarski's Tyranids featured on What's New Today... far from bland, but not even his great paint job saves the Daily Blog.

Painting the Centipede Basics by Carmen from Carmen's Fun Painty Time - With the release of the new Tyranids this tutorial seemed appropriate for all those carapaces that will need painting. This approach offers something a little different to what is shown in White Dwarf's Paint Splatter.

Citadel Fantasy Terrain Enhancement by TEoE from Eye of Error - Something different to the normal when it comes to terrain tutorials. I don't think I've seen balsa foam used in the past for terrain pieces. However, a quick search of Google shows just how useful this material is for hobbyists wanting to add something to their terrain tables.

Slaaneshi Cultist by Kari from Spiky Rat Pack - The pose and colour selection really doesn't scream Slaaneshi Cultist to me. However, it is still an amazing conversion and paint job. I particularly like how the legs have been blended into everything. And even though the bolt pistol is huge, it doesn't look out of place.

How to Paint Mirkwood Elf Rangers by Garfy from Tale of Painters - I've fallen in love with this series of tutorials by Garfy. I've got a modest size collection of LotR miniatures from when I first got into Citadel Miniatures. After reading through his Dwarf tutorials I've decided to take them out and throw* some paint on them. These is also this tutorial on painting the trolls from the Hobbit movie.

The actually miniature he's painting doesn't interesting me all that much. However, the process is interesting. And I'm always interested in seeing how others go about basing their projects...

Less than a week to go till Christmas is upon us. What sort of things do my Imaginary Friends have planned for the festive season?

Necron Cryptek Conversion by Garfy from Tale of Painter - A creative conversion that shows how easy it is to throw in some flavour to Necron Characters. I particularly like the way he went about showing us what parts he used to bring his creation to life. I suspect this miniature will find its way to the White Dwarf teams inbox along with his Goblin Wolf Rider Standard Bearer. Both represent true kit-bashes as opposed to the head swaps we regularly see in White Dwarf.

Horus Heresy Death Guard Killzone Team by Dave Taylor from Dave Taylor Miniatures - The Horus Heresy bug has clearly spread across the interwebz from forums to blogs. It is interesting that several years ago collecting a Forge World army was a daunting task to anybody that didn't want to be divorced. They were viewed as expensive luxuries that only the rich or socially withdrawn could afford. Now, that seems to be changing... unlike Death Korps of Krieg, they aren't strictly an all resin army. Dave Taylor's growing collection illustrates this nicely with a blend of resin and plastic components spread throughout the army.

How to Paint the Hobbit Miniatures Series by Garfy from Tale of Painters - I've included several of Garfy's The Hobbit tutorials in the past. He has collected links to all of them in one place. A must read for anybody that picked up the Goblin Town box set.

Craftworld Mymeara Painting Guide by GMort Nigel Bartlett from GMorts Chaotica - A guest's authors painting guide on one way to painting Craftworld Mymeara. The painting of the canopy window particuarly interested me. It seems like a great way for any painter that uses objective source lightening to add to the illusion.

Mismatch of Bolts and Bolters by coldfyre from Bolter & Chainsword - An indepth look into the inconsistencies between the Warhammer 40K background and the miniatures that we see on the table top. In this case the size of our much beloved bolter and the rounds of ammunition used within them. In the comment sections there was also a link to Phil Sibbering's website. I've not read through all of it. But it offers an interesting look into the Warhammer 40K Universe. For example, his illustration below helps challenge the misconception that Space Marine's shoulders aren't wide enough to fit inside Power Armour.
