After last month's Weekly Finds focus on utilising Focus Fire and the Movement Phase to kill more things... it seems appropriate to take a look at ways to win against the Tau Empire. According to the interwebz they are the new cheese...

How to Beat New Tau by Matt-Shadowlord from the Pinktastic Blog - The beginning of what promises to be another excellent series by Matt-Shadowlord. The look at objective placement is a great way to challenge the thought process of how you may regularly deploy objectives. I know I've made silly mistakes with selecting table sides and then furthering it with poor placement of objectives.

Deployment 101 Against Tau by Kirby from the Pinktastic Blog - Kirby uses some games of his to illustrate common mistakes as well as encourages players to get into the habit of thinking where they want their units to be during the game. This is reinforced with him highlighting the mistake of putting the Aegis Defence Line in your backfield rather than the midfield... something very important to consider. Especially, in tournament play or at local game stores that lack a decent amount of terrain.

Step by Step Tutorial of Pedro Kantor by Raffa from Massive Voodoo - This is described as a fast tutorial... yet for the vast majority of hobbyists this would be considered professional and garner lots of jealousy. I can imagine that on a stock standard Space Marine that lacks all of the extra details, this would indeed work out to be a fast tutorial. Especially, when you consider how few colours are actually used.

Number Crunching the Troops by Anonymous Foodie from The Back 40K - A different approach to comparing the value of units on the table top. To a greater extent this article helps poke holes into the argument that mathhammer alone should win games. A must read before considering the opinions of interwebz personalities.

Eldar Wraithknight by Third Eye Nuke from Tale of Painters - Third Eye Nuke's approach to painting his wraith constructs draws some nice parallels with wraithbone, and more specifically Forge World's Wraithseer. Yet the weathering breaks it away from the traditional clean look. The colour scheme used has similarities with TEN's Tau miniatures.

Tyler Mengel's Nurgle Force by Nurgling6688 from Bolter & Chainsword - I've featured Tyler's WiP of Typhus. He is now making progress of some cultists to join his Nurgle force. These cultists are a nice blend of Games Workshop Bitz, Secret Weapon Miniatures skulls and Victorian Miniatures conversion parts. I look forward to seeing this collection grow...

Leaked High Elves by Volomir from Volomir's Blog - The elven races of the Fantasy Universe are apart of my top five. However, I doubt this release will push me towards moving to that game system. Regardless, I'm sure there are Imaginary Friends who would like to see these. Plus it add's some weight to the possibility that Eldar are set for June/July... Chaos Warriors and Chaos Space Marines came out back-to-back while Chaos Daemons for both factions came out together.

White Dwarf - April 2013 Tau Empire

This month's White Dwarf Review is by Stahly from Tale of Painters. The tone of the review is almost depressing... but then the lack of real content could probably do that. Nothing stunning or insightful about the Tau release. Despite being the 400th issue of White Dwarf, there really isn't anything special about it. Haven't seen a freebie in a long time. The eight page spread of the Agrellan Refinery was nice... it looks good. And the use of yellow for the buildings was a pleasant change of scenery. But then this blows it out of the water. And off course once again the interwebz offers more unique content with Aaron Dembski-Bowden showing off Eddie's Dark Angels.

Hall of Honour - Corflich Loatheheart

Below is one of the Sagas that was written some time ago by Adam Troke. I'm assuming it is Adam Troke... article has his name on it. This one has Dark Eldar in it...

When the Murderval of Chaos was defeated upon the Eldar world of Lohiac, Ssair the Gleamling was in a serious Predicament. The Dark Eldar had denied the Daemons entry to the webway, and left the host bloodied and humiliated. With the Ssair's power and influence waning, it was unsurprising that a rival should seek to gain prominence in his stead - this was Corflich Loatheheart, a beautiful and cunning Daemon Prince sworn to Tzeentch.

With the deft manoeuvring so typical of Tzeentch and his minions, Loatheheart duped the Greater Daemon of Slaanesh into yielding power of the Murderval into his stewardship on promises that it would be returned once it had claimed its millionth soul for Tzeentch. Of course, the oaths of a Daemon Prince are a dubious thing and it was not long before Ssair found himself imprisoned within the Impossible Fortress, the Murderval fully under new management.

The first act of Corflich was to strike out against the agri-world of Dortun, where the populace were eradicated in three nights of bloodshed and debauchery. Upon the Tau sept world of Vior'la they stole away three hundred Fire Warriors and deposited them within the Garden of Nurgle, much to his delight (and their short-lived horror).

Grandest of all his schemes was the vengeance that he enacted upon the Eldar survivors of the battle of Lohiac. A band of Dark Eldar, enacting a precise and deadly raid deep within Imperial territory were mortified to find a raid upon the death world of Raith. The pickings were not quite as the Dark Eldar had expected, however, as they arrived to find the Imperial Guard garrison already slaughtered to a man. Sensing a trap they quickly turned to depart but their escape was blocked by the shimmering host of the Daemonettes. Vengeance for the Murderval's thwarted plans on Lohaic was taken in full as scores of Dark Eldar were cut down and dragged screaming into the Realm of Chaos.

The Archon leading the Dark Eldar force was finally run to ground within the thick jungle of Raith by Loadtheheart, who swooped down from the trees to pluck her up like a bird of prey. Disarming her in a short and bloody fight, and having broken both her arms and legs, Loatheheart delivered her quailing form to Slaanesh's Palace of Pleasure, a token and tribute from the new master of the Murderval.
