Step by Step Tutorial of Pedro Kantor by Raffa from Massive Voodoo - This is described as a fast tutorial... yet for the vast majority of hobbyists this would be considered professional and garner lots of jealousy. I can imagine that on a stock standard Space Marine that lacks all of the extra details, this would indeed work out to be a fast tutorial. Especially, when you consider how few colours are actually used.

Number Crunching the Troops by Anonymous Foodie from The Back 40K - A different approach to comparing the value of units on the table top. To a greater extent this article helps poke holes into the argument that mathhammer alone should win games. A must read before considering the opinions of interwebz personalities.

Eldar Wraithknight by Third Eye Nuke from Tale of Painters - Third Eye Nuke's approach to painting his wraith constructs draws some nice parallels with wraithbone, and more specifically Forge World's Wraithseer. Yet the weathering breaks it away from the traditional clean look. The colour scheme used has similarities with TEN's Tau miniatures.

White Dwarf - June 2013 Eldar

Garfy's Review Comparison of this month's White Dwarf follows on from the success of February's Review Comparison. For me this month's issue doesn't come that far ahead of the 2006 issue. And it is only mildly better because the adverts aren't thrust into your face. I do miss the old issues with the exceptional collections featured in White Dwarf. For example, there is a stunning Bretonnian army by Golden Daemon winner Jamie Downward. That is the sort of army I want to see... it is nice that the current White Dwarf team want to show off their collections. But they don't inspire me to try a different paint style, collect a new army or try out some conversion. The 2006 issue even had an article on converting different units including a Witch Hunter Retinue by Mike Butcher and an envy inducing Adeptus Arbite squad by Marc Raley. The article includes a tutorial on converting the count-as shotguns.

White Dwarf - May 2013 High Elves

This months White Dwarf review is by Garfy. As has become the norm, the guys from Tale of Painters offer a break down of the content with their distinct perspective painters and collectors more so than gamers. The highlight of this month's issue is Mark Bedford's Blood Angels with its Forge World eye candy.

Weekly Finds #115

Magnetizing Contemptor Weapons and Joints by Drathmere from 40k Hobby Blog - This is one of Forge World's kits that is high on my Gift List. Unfortunately, I've got more than enough to build for a life time. So it won't be added to the never ending collection any time soon. Doesn't stop me from checking out other hobbyists resin crack. The fully painted body can be found here along with some background.

Painting Realistic Fluid Filled Vials by Lucky No. 5 from Eye of Error - A tutorial with four easy steps. This approach could be most useful for Dark Eldar... however, it would work for any miniature with a vial. Obviously if you wanted the liquid free portion of the vial to be transparent then more work would be required. Can also see the latest Pain Engine added to Lucky No. 7's coven here...

Ork Kopta Carrier by Rictus from Recalcitrant Daze - This is a jaw dropping project. Below is the current rivet count. It is a multi story scratch built project using a Bane Blade as the base... and that doesn't give this justice at it will dwarf a Bane Blade. It has some rather unique weapon platforms as well. Orks always have such fun conversions...

Landscaping Projekt Thalassa Prime by Tuskar from dieVincis - This looks very cool. Would be a great backdrop for a Sisters of Battle army. Shame there aren't more WiP pictures... or more details on the construction.

WIP: High Elf Dragon Lord by Volomir from Volormir's Blog - This is part 5 of another highly detailed series by Volomir following on from his Sword Masters and Sea Guards. It is interesting to see how light the green stuff actually is... as well as seeing the process of slowly building up the detail.

Building Deimos Pattern Predator Turret by Ron from FTW - A very cheap scratch built turret with some clever use of a ping pong ball. With some smoother seams this would look even more realistic.

Tutorial: How to Pain Dark Angels by Stahly from Tale of Painters - With the release of Dark Vengeance we are going to see a lot of green marines on table tops. So this tutorial seems highly appropriate for this Weekly Finds.

Review: Complete Guide to Photographing Miniatures by Raffa from Massive Voodoo - I'm far from needing a DVD Guide like this... I wouldn't even call myself an amateur photographer. Just one of those guys who uses iPhone to take pictures. However, I can see others such as my future self finding this extremely helpful.

High Contrast Effect for Metal Power Weapons by Ron from FTW - There are probably dozens of ways to creating the illusion of power weapons. Some involve the use of air brushes while others aim to create lighting to varying degrees. But this is probably one of the most simple, yet effective method I've seen. Something for table top standard miniatures.

Tutorial: How to Paint the Chaos Hellbrute by Garfy from Tale of Painters - It is looking more pink compared to the 'Eavy Metal version. However, I still like what Garfy has produced. Be great for all those pleasure cults.

Warhammer 40K Frequently Asked Questions from Games Workshop - An extensive update including a much needed Frequently Asked Questions for the rule book itself. Two of the rulings would have directly impacted the game I played last night. With one of them having a huge difference in regards to a C'Tan charging through terrain into some Terminators... the other resulting in much cries of angst towards Games Workshop by some Black Templar players.

Review: Citadel Paint Range by Stahly from Tale of Painters - With the release of the new Citadel Pain Range the interwebz have been flooded with the opinions of many. This is one of the best I've found. What jumps out at me the most about this review is that Stahly has looked at the history of Citadel Paints and how this has impacted on the new paints. Something that nobody else has looked at...

Triage Documents by Headologist from The Bolter & Chainsword - I'm two months into working in an Emergency Department and this was amusing when I saw it. Just as amusing as the doctor that goes around with Umbrella Corporation logos on all his equipment...

Apocalypse Primer: Hosting a Game by Chris Donohue from Apocalypse 40K - With the addition of the Land Raider Achilles to my collection I've turned my attention to Apocalypse. Without any Titans or Super Heavies in my collection these rules don't directly apply to me... but they may be something to bring up next time I partake in my FLGS Apoc Games.

Whose Voice Drowns Out All Others by Tyler M. from Mengel Miniatures - An awesome tutorial on painting yellow with the new Citadel Paints... it has turned yellow into one of the quickest and easiest colours to paint. It doesn't look as good as DV8's Lamenters. However, considering that yellow was a colour left for the professionals this will change things up dramatically.

Vostroyan Pained with New Citadel Paints by Drathmere from 40k Hobby Blog - Another miniature painted using the new Citadel Paints. This time the entire miniature was painted with the new paints. Nothing jumps out except for the vibrant red... with just a single glaze the red has become amazing.

I'm a week away from hitting number 72 of my weekly finds. For some reason that number will be important to me. Yet there will be nothing at all significant about it... much like my 22nd Birthday which is tomorrow. Subtle B-bomb...

Jodorowsky's Dune by Matt Colville from Squaremans - I was completely engrossed by this article. Matt Colville's writing style completely captured my attention. It is no secret that Warhammer 40K has been heavily influenced by the novel Dune. Both the film by David Lynch and the first Alien movie had come out well before Rogue Trader was released. Even Blade Runner had been out for a few years. So to read this article and see a few pieces of this artwork was like a chocoholic getting a glimpse into Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory. I hope to watch this documentary soon.

Weekly Finds #70

Reviewing RDG Tools 3 in 1 Airbrush Cleaning Pot by Garfy from Tale of Painters - A look at an air brush cleaner. This one seems rather cool as it also includes a palette and an airbrush holder. The other brands that I've seen also include the paint holder. Iwata also offers a cleaning pot as well as this rather funky naked jellyfish from Harder & Steenbeck.

Ork Thunderhawk by Loken from Apocalypse 40K - This is an amazing scratch-build by Romeo from Battlefoam... yes you read that right, scratch-built. I can't not look at this and think Thundaork. Since seeing this I've been tempted to start collecting an Orks army just so I can scratch build all sorts of Orky things. As well as an excuse to buy an Ork Kill Busta Tank.

Greenman Design Inc

Came across this video on Sunday while looking inside Brent's digital head. I'm glad I did because it looks like I've found the solution to craters for all of my Rhinos six built at the moment with more on the way. This will be much easier than using ripped up pieces of paper or making my own craters out of movement trays. The thin design will be convenient as I'll be able to fit them all into my Battlefoam bag. Looking forward to when gdesign.com goes live.
